The protagonist of this work, the second child of the Kagenou baron family. From a young age, he aspired to be a hero, a shadowy figure of true ability, and worked hard towards that goal. In fact, he is a boy who reincarnated from modern society to another world. Therefore, he possesses knowledge of modern Japan before his reincarnation. He whimsically recruited girls cured of demonic possession into his service and leads the Shadow Garden, enjoying the role of a shadowy figure of true ability. He performs "shadowy figure moves" on a whim as he defines them, unaware that the fabricated setting he created actually exists and that he has become a real shadowy figure of true ability. Normally, he lives disguised as an ordinary person, but behind the scenes, he attacks bandits to steal money and prepares facilities as a shadowy figure of true ability.
Before reincarnation, his name was Minoru Kagino (in the anime and web novel versions, it's Minoru Kagino). In the comic version's prologue, he was overly muscular due to excessive training (though he later returns to a normal physique, the depiction is inconsistent), but this is a unique setting by the illustrator. In the original work that depicted his life before reincarnation, "His Name is Minoru Kagino," and in the first episode of the TV anime, it is explicitly stated by an enemy he fought that he has average height and weight. According to his classmate Akane, "He had black hair and eyes with an ordinary face, always looked sleepy, and had bags under his eyes. He was a shadowy student, with below-average grades and athletic ability, not part of any club, had few friends but some acquaintances to talk to. He was just an ordinary, inconspicuous student."
A seeker infected with chuunibyou and a joyful criminal. He has worked tirelessly before and after reincarnation, aiming to become a shadowy figure of true ability, refusing to compromise on his ideal to become an entity that cannot be defeated by any force, possessing not only comprehensive combat power but also unmatched combat skills. Due to his zeal and foundation, he has mastered martial arts and magical techniques, making him the strongest combatant in the work, usually killing most enemies instantly. He is not particularly intelligent, and although he can get carried away, he is aware that some of the Seven Shadows are smarter than him, and he has only trained enough to pass without failing. As a result, he does not remember his past actions and often comments on his own words and actions as if they were someone else's, and he sometimes has selfish misconceptions that differ from the facts.
To achieve the world's strongest status, he has undergone various physical modifications, transforming his body to be suitable for using magic power and becoming a short sleeper to increase the time he can devote to training. Unlike the inhabitants of the other world who release their magic power directly, he compresses and explodes magic power rapidly inside his body like an internal combustion engine, generating high-output magic power.
He acts purely for self-satisfaction and adheres to his aesthetic as a shadowy figure of true ability, so he does not attack ordinary citizens meaninglessly. He generally helps people in danger from crimes while hiding his identity and does not seek rewards or returns for helping others. However, he shows no mercy to villains, hesitatingly committing robbery and theft for monetary purposes, and plans to swindle 3 million Zeny out of the 10 billion Zeny shown to him by his friend Gamma, whom he regards as a successful friend, for his own satisfaction. He acts without hesitation in criminal activities, caring only about his own desires, and it is dubious whether he even has a conscience. He also rationalizes that "it's okay if one disappears if there are over a hundred siblings" right after saying "siblings should be cherished," and he thinks "it's okay if dormitories and school buildings disappear along with the students due to the aftermath of a battle" because he does not do things that would hurt people, including himself, in the middle of an exciting battle. He prioritizes his own goals over human lives and common sense, showing traits close to a psychopath.
He is aware that he is seen as a madman chasing a child's dream and also believes that evil organizations do not actually exist, understanding that the Seven Shadows are just playing a farce while thoughtfully coming up with various settings and faithfully playing along with his friends, who are also enemies (strangely cooperative bandits and criminals).
Because he has gained tremendous combat power through his own efforts, he respects the efforts of others, but he is harsh in his words and actions towards easy increases in combat power through drugs or artifacts, brute force, or clumsy techniques that rely on magic power, which he considers "taking it easy or being lazy." He has discarded all desires, including those towards others, to the extent of pursuing the strongest, so he has no romantic or sexual desires, and is indifferent to how others react to his actions, which is a flaw. He is also poor at sensing others' emotions.
"Although he usually pretends to be an ordinary person, he is actually the world's strongest being," so when acting as Sid, he thoroughly hides his abilities and strictly pretends to be a plain mob. When acting under a false name, including Shadow, he fully demonstrates his abilities and acts as he pleases. His appearances and activities are typical of an anti-hero, such as "being confessed to by the school's most beautiful girl and being utterly rejected (although the other party, Princess Alexia, had plans, the confession was accepted and they briefly dated)," "participating in a martial arts tournament as a favorite and being miserably defeated (despite being severely injured from repeated attacks, he continued to stand up with an indomitable spirit, impressing his opponent)," and "becoming the first victim as a warning to those who resisted terrorists (he was slashed by terrorists while protecting Rose, but was later revived and healed with magic power, and miraculously survived after the incident was resolved)." He is so committed to mob-like actions that he even names his techniques, but contrary to his intentions, he is becoming (for better or worse) a celebrity at school.
The members of the Shadow Garden, including the Seven Shadows, were originally in a state called demonic possession, waiting only for death, but he saved and treated them, teaching them vaguely remembered knowledge and skills from before his reincarnation as "shadowy wisdom." These teachings are being reproduced and utilized by the highly capable personnel centered around the Seven Shadows, generating tremendous benefits. As a result, Shadow is interpreted as having an outstanding brain and knowledge, and his combat power is genuine, earning him a level of loyalty akin to worship from everyone. However, Sid himself thinks of them as friends who owe him a favor and play along with his antics. His subordinates are impressed by his foresight in his words and actions, but he is not thinking about anything, and his suggestive casual remarks and soliloquies just happen to coincide with the situation, leading to misunderstandings, and from the viewer's perspective, he appears as comic relief.
He spends his days with his family and visits the Seven Shadows, including Alpha, at night, taking care of their food, clothing, and shelter for several years and teaching them martial arts, knowledge, and skills, showing that he is quite caring.
In his previous life, he reluctantly started learning the piano due to his family's educational policy, but continued practicing because he thought it would be cool if he could play, and he has become proficient, which has also been conveyed to Epsilon.
He is positive about eternal life because the play of being a shadowy figure of true ability can be reset indefinitely, and this ideology has led to Zeta and his faction committing acts of betrayal.
