Kaori Miyazono

The heroine of this work. A third-year student at Sumitani Municipal Junior High School. Her birthday is July 4th. She is 157 centimeters tall. A violinist.

She has an overwhelming individuality as a performer and strives to leave a lasting impression on her audience. She has a bright and active personality, but she behaves outrageously towards Kōsei, leading him to initially think she has "bizarre" and "eccentric" thoughts. However, she occasionally shows tears unexpectedly and has moments where she reveals her feelings to Kōsei, crying and saying, "Don't leave me alone." She has had special feelings for Kōsei even before they met, expressing sentiments like "I want to know more about you" and "I'm envious of Tsubaki who knows everything about you."

In the spring of her third year of junior high, she becomes close with Kōsei, Tsubaki, and Ryōta after being introduced to Ryōta by Tsubaki. At the Towa Music Competition, she ignores the sheet music and is harshly criticized by the judges, but receives applause from the audience and advances to the second round by audience recommendation. To get Kōsei, who had distanced himself from the piano, to play again, she asks him to accompany her in the second round and encourages him to participate in the Maihō Music Competition. Later, she is invited to a gala concert with Kōsei, but collapses on the day of the concert and is hospitalized thereafter. As her condition worsens, she becomes mentally unstable, but after hearing Kōsei's performance at the school festival, she decides to undergo a risky surgery to live, motivated by Kōsei's desire to perform together again.

In a letter she left behind after her death, it is revealed that she was moved by Kōsei's performance when she was five years old and switched to the violin to have Kōsei accompany her on the piano. She had been in and out of the hospital since collapsing in her first year of junior high and knew her life wouldn't be long. She also confessed that she lied about liking Ryōta. The reason for the lie was to avoid leaving a rift between herself and Tsubaki, and because she thought Tsubaki wouldn't give a good response if she asked her to introduce Kōsei.

In the anime version, her hair color changes as the story progresses. At the beginning of the story, she has vibrant blonde hair, but as her health deteriorates, her hair color becomes lighter.
