Roberdyck is a support-oriented divine spellcaster and a member of Foresight, one of the most competent worker teams in the Baharuth Empire.

Unlike many workers who take jobs purely for money, he chose the life of a worker so he could save more people than he could under the restrictive structure of a religious temple.

He is a former upper-class priest who became disillusioned with the political entanglements, corruption, and constraints within temple society.

By leaving the temple and joining Foresight, he aimed to use his abilities more freely for the benefit of the weak and oppressed.

Roberdyck is genuinely altruistic and widely regarded as a “truly good person.”

He donates a portion of his reward money to orphanages and quietly works on behalf of other priests who share his ideals but are unable to act openly.

His temperament is gentle and considerate, with a soft-spoken manner and excellent conversational skills.

Because of this, he often serves as the team’s negotiator and diplomatic front when dealing with clients, authorities, and other adventurers or workers.

He has a strong moral code and a sincere desire to help the vulnerable, which contrasts sharply with the often mercenary mindset of other workers.

Even in a profession filled with danger and opportunism, Roberdyck consistently uses his earnings and influence to support those in need.

He likes sweets but abstains from them while on the job as a personal superstition and good-luck ritual.

Due to his background as a priest, he is an extremely light drinker; alcohol affects him so badly that he needs magical detoxification if he does drink.

Roberdyck appears to be in his 30s, with a sturdy, rugged facial structure that suggests reliability rather than delicacy.

His hair is cut short in a close-cropped style, and he keeps a short beard that is carefully groomed, giving him a clean and refreshing impression.

He wears full plate armor over his body, combining the image of a warrior with that of a holy man.

Over his armor, he dons a surcoat emblazoned with the holy symbol of his faith, and he also wears the same holy symbol as a pendant around his neck.

At his waist, he carries a morningstar, underlining his role as both a frontline fighter and a divine spellcaster.

The overall look is that of a disciplined holy warrior, blending protective gear with religious iconography.

Roberdyck can cast divine magic up to the Third Tier.

In combat, he primarily focuses on support and protection, strengthening allies and healing their injuries rather than dealing direct damage.

He is not portrayed as a top-tier powerhouse compared to legendary figures, but within the worker world he is competent, reliable, and tactically sound.

His combination of healing, buffs, and defensive magic makes him the backbone of Foresight’s survivability in dangerous expeditions.

Main Spells and Skills

Anti-Evil Protection

Roberdyck can use Anti-Evil Protection, a First-Tier defensive spell.

The exact details are not fully explained, but the name implies it grants protection against evil-aligned entities or effects.

Magic Weapon

In the web version, he uses Magic Weapon (also rendered as “Weapon Enchantment” in that context).

This spell temporarily infuses a weapon with magical power, increasing its cutting or striking capability for a limited time.

Middle Cure Wounds

He can cast Middle Cure Wounds, a Second-Tier healing spell.

It restores the health of living targets and functions as a damaging holy spell against undead creatures.

Lion’s Heart

Roberdyck uses Lion’s Heart, a spell whose tier is not specified.

It removes fear and grants complete resistance to fear-related effects, boosting the morale and mental resilience of allies.

Lesser Strength

He has access to Lesser Strength, a Second-Tier supportive spell.

This magic increases a target’s physical strength, improving their melee combat performance and ability to handle heavy loads.

Lesser Dexterity

Roberdyck can also cast Lesser Dexterity, another Second-Tier buff spell.

It enhances the target’s agility and dexterity, making them faster, more accurate, and better at evasion.

After completing a routine undead-clearing mission in the Katze Plains, Roberdyck and Foresight take a rare day off.

During this break, they receive an intriguing commission to investigate a mysterious “ruin” that has suddenly appeared in the territory of the Re-Estize Kingdom.

This “ruin” is actually the Great Tomb of Nazarick, though the team does not realize it.

Foresight enters the tomb along with other worker teams, fighting through numerous lesser undead such as Gasts, Flesh Golems, and Ghouls.

Eventually, they are teleported to the Sixth Floor Colosseum within Nazarick.

There, Roberdyck and his teammates come face-to-face with Ainz Ooal Gown, initially under the impression that he is a powerful but possibly reasonable magic caster.

At first, Foresight manages to coordinate their attacks and work together in a surprisingly effective way.

Their teamwork allows them to at least “hang on” in the early stages of the confrontation, even though the power gap is enormous.

However, once Ainz reveals his true capabilities as a supreme-tier magic caster, any hope of victory vanishes.

The difference in power becomes so overwhelming that Foresight has no realistic chance to win or escape by force.

After Hekkeran Termite is rendered unable to continue fighting, Roberdyck and the scout Imiuna prioritize saving at least one teammate.

They work together to help Alshae (Arche) flee, intending for her to escape the tomb and survive, despite the odds.

With Alshae sent away, Roberdyck and Imiuna remain behind and choose to confront Ainz directly.

They make this stand fully aware that their chances are slim, acting out of duty and a desire to buy time and protect their ally.

Ainz then uses Time Stop to halt Imiuna.

Following that, he applies Touch of the Undead, paralyzing her completely before she even understands what has happened.

When time resumes and the effects become apparent, Roberdyck is informed that time itself had been stopped.

Confronted with such an incomprehensible display of power, he realizes just how insignificant he is compared to Ainz and loses the will to keep fighting.

In the light novel version, Roberdyck is spared a simple death only to suffer a worse fate.

Ainz uses him as a test subject for experiments designed to prove the existence of gods and to explore methods of altering faith and memory.

Roberdyck is magically brainwashed into worshiping a different deity than the one he originally served.

This forced alteration of his faith shatters his mind, leaving him in a near-vegetative, broken state, effectively destroying the “truly good priest” he once was.

In the web novel version, the sequence up to entering Nazarick and negotiating with Ainz is broadly similar, but Roberdyck’s fate is even more grotesque.

After the negotiations fail, he is transformed into a lump of flesh with a head still attached, losing his human form entirely.

Although he no longer has a functioning mind in the usual sense, he remains alive and capable of reacting to pain.

His mutilated flesh-body is repeatedly bitten and eaten by a monstrous maid-like creature, likely Entoma Vasilissa Zeta, while he lets out moans and tremors of suffering.

Each time he is injured or consumed, healing magic restores and regenerates his body.

This creates a cycle of endless pain and recovery, with Roberdyck trapped in perpetual torment.

When Alshae sees him in this state, she recognizes it as a horror “worse than death.”

His fate serves as a chilling example of the cruel experimentation and sadistic creativity that can occur within Nazarick.

Even after being reduced to a broken shell of his former self, Roberdyck continues to be “useful” to Ainz.

In the past, when Ainz used Control Amnesia on Enri Emmot and Nemu Emmot to alter the memory of his undead nature, adjusting just that specific detail cost him half of his MP, showing how difficult precise memory modification can be.

With Roberdyck available as a long-term test subject, Ainz practices and refines his memory manipulation techniques.

Roberdyck’s mind and memories are repeatedly tampered with, making him an involuntary training tool for Ainz’s magical experimentation.

As a result of this ongoing practice, Ainz becomes significantly more proficient at extracting and editing memories without leaving lingering damage.

By Volume 11, he can safely draw out memories from Zenberu Gugu, and by Volume 16 he is able to retrieve information from Antilene Heran Fouche, both without causing severe aftereffects.

Roberdyck’s suffering thus indirectly contributes to the future success of Nazarick’s plans and intelligence-gathering operations.

His tragedy highlights both the scale of Ainz’s power and the cold, utilitarian approach Nazarick takes toward human lives.
