Ragyou Kiryuuin is the mother of Satsuki Kiryuuin and one of the main villains in Kill la Kill. She is the chairwoman of Honnouji Academy and the CEO of the REVOCS Corporation. Ragyou controls most of the world’s clothing industry and plans to use Life Fibers to take over the planet. She is stronger and more charismatic than Satsuki, and almost everyone around her has to wear sunglasses because her presence shines with bright rainbow light. Her goal is to use clothes (Life Fibers) to control all of humanity. Ragyou survived incredible injuries thanks to her bond with the Life Fibers. She sees her daughters only as tools for her plans, not as family, making her a truly chilling and memorable villain.
Ragyou Kiryuuin has a striking appearance, much like her daughter Satsuki.
She has slightly purple-tinted silver hair in a bob cut, with the ends spreading out like the feathers of a bird.
The underside of her hair glows with rainbow colors.
Her body shines so brightly in all seven colors that it creates many shadows around her.
People often need sunglasses to look at her directly.
Her face is beautiful and calm, with strong eyebrows and sharp eyes and nose.
She has large scars on her back, like stitched-up wounds, hinting at a violent past.
Ragyou is cold, strict, and always in control.
She is full of confidence and has a charisma that is even greater than Satsuki’s.
Ragyou hardly shows normal human emotions.
She believes clothes are humanity’s “original sin” and thinks Life Fibers should rule humans.
She sees almost everyone, including her own family, as pawns for her plans.
Ragyou often acts like a queen, expecting everyone around her to obey.
Even when she is with her daughter, she sometimes acts cruel and distant.
Ragyou is the head of the powerful Kiryuin family.
She is the CEO of REVOCS, which sells 70% of the world’s clothes.
Years ago, she came into contact with the original Life Fiber and became its agent.
She married Soichiro Kiryuin and used her daughters, Satsuki and Ryuuko Matoi, for experiments to combine humans with Life Fibers.
She fused her own body with Life Fibers and now most of her body is made of them.
She wants to use her company’s clothes to spread Life Fibers around the world and let them control everyone.
Ragyou is extremely powerful because most of her body is made of Life Fibers.
She can heal from almost any wound, even if her heart is destroyed or her head is cut off.
She has superhuman strength, enough to easily beat Satsuki and break weapons with her hands.
She can control minds using Life Fibers and shoot strong energy waves from her hands.
Ragyou can also fly in the air without any help.
She can take on both Satsuki and Ryuuko at the same time in battle and not be defeated.
Ragyou is Satsuki Kiryuuin’s mother.
She is also Ryuuko Matoi’s real mother, but she sees her daughters as tools for her Life Fiber experiments.
Her relationship with her family is cold.
She married Soichiro Kiryuin only to create children she could use for her plans.
She does not trust anyone fully, not even her own daughters, and she is willing to hurt them to achieve her goals.
“What is clothing to you all?!”
The Life Fiber Experiment
Ragyou comes into contact with the original Life Fiber about 20 years before the story.
She becomes its agent and starts researching Life Fibers to help them conquer the world.
She makes REVOCS spread Life Fiber-made clothes everywhere, supporting her secret plans.
Using Her Family as Tools
She chooses Soichiro Kiryuin as her husband because she wants to use their children for fusion experiments.
She uses her daughters, Satsuki and Ryuuko, as test subjects to create a human who can merge with Life Fibers just like herself.
Rainbow Appearance and Overwhelming Power
When Ragyou appears, her rainbow light is so bright that most people need sunglasses just to look at her.
She has many scars on her back, showing that she went through something bloody in the past.
With her superhuman abilities, she can heal any injuries and fight her daughters easily.
The Great Culture and Sports Festival
During the Grand Culture and Sports Festival, Ragyou arrives dressed like a jester.
She turns almost everyone in the stadium into Life Fibers, starting a huge experiment.
Satsuki tries to kill her from behind, but Ragyou quickly recovers, steals Junketsu from Satsuki, and locks her up.
She keeps punishing Satsuki and scolds her for trying to rebel.
The Truth about Ryuuko
Later, Ragyou learns that Ryuuko is her real daughter.
She brainwashes Ryuuko and forces her to wear Junketsu, so she will attack Satsuki and the others if they try to escape.
Ragyou prepares for the big plan called “Cocoon Star Rebirth,” where she will make the original Life Fiber rise from the palace.
Final Battles
The original Life Fiber is stopped by Ryuuko and Satsuki working together, but Ragyou fights back wearing “Shinra Kouketsu.”
She absorbs Rei Hououmaru and keeps fighting even in space, planning to wake up all the Life Fibers around the world.
Ryuuko, combining everyone’s power with Senketsu, fights her in space and eventually takes away all of Ragyou’s powers.
Ragyou, refusing to change, pulls out her own heart and destroys it, choosing to die instead of giving up her ideas.
Before dying, she warns that Life Fibers might return to Earth someday.
Ragyou’s hair glows with rainbow light underneath, making her stand out in any scene.
Her body shines so brightly that she always has shadows everywhere.
Fans sometimes joke and call her “the parent of seven lights” because of her glowing, referencing the phrase about “parental favor.”
Even her manner of sitting or standing shows her commanding presence.
When she steps on the original Life Fiber, she always puts a handkerchief on it, showing her strange sense of respect.
She is considered one of the most powerful and unique villains in Kill la Kill.
