Character Setting

Edit

Rei Batsubami is an original character from the second season of the anime "Kakegurui xx". She is a female student who dresses in a boy's uniform and was brought into Hyakkaou Private Academy as an attendant for the Hundred Devouring Families, not as a family head. Rei has a complicated past tied to her family, who exiled her, marking her as an outcast and treating her like livestock. Despite her history, Rei becomes known for her kindness, helping mistreated students and earning their admiration. She struggles with her sense of identity and purpose, leading her to organize a large vote auction as a gambler. Through a dramatic series of gambles and personal trials with Yumeko Jabami, Rei learns the meaning of moving forward and regains her family name and her own place at the academy, now embracing her true self.

Rei Batsubami is a female student who wears a male school uniform.

She always has a soft, calm smile on her face.

She wears white gloves on both hands at all times.

In her childhood, she had long hair.

After a turning point in her life, Rei starts wearing a girl's uniform, styles her hair more femininely, and puts on makeup.

Rei is gentle and caring, often helping students who are treated unfairly at school.

She accepts her hardships quietly but has moments when strong emotions break through her calm exterior.

As she experiences acts of kindness from others, Rei feels confused by these new, unfamiliar feelings.

Deep inside, she struggles with loneliness and questions her identity due to how her family treated her.

Rei is part of the Hundred Devouring Families but is not a head of a family.

She is from the Batsubami family, who were exiled from the main families and labeled as "outcasts".

After losing a match with her family, Rei lost even her name and received the mark "x" and the word "Devour" engraved on her hands.

She was treated like livestock and lived a hard life.

Yumeko Jabami's sister noticed Rei's situation and reached out to her, treating her kindly.

However, after Yumeko’s sister also lost to the family and suffered the same fate, Rei's resentment toward the families grew.

This inspired her to cut her hair and decide to reach the top of the family herself, but her original family name remains unknown.

Rei is highly skilled at organizing and running gambling events.

She is good at strategizing, as seen in her handling of the 100 Vote Auction.

Rei can hide her emotions and play roles effectively, such as remaining calm while running a rigged auction.

She is brave, challenging Yumeko Jabami to a coin toss with her family name at stake.

Rei serves as the caretaker for the main families, brought in by Terano Totobami as insurance against Kirari Momobami.

She harbors hatred for the main families but also shows gratitude and attachment to Yumeko Jabami’s sister, who helped her during her lowest point.

She gradually builds positive connections with students like Ryouta Suzui and the people she helps.

Her rival is Yumeko Jabami, who greatly influences her journey.

After growing as a person, Rei is allowed by Kirari Momobami to reclaim her family name and start over.

Entering the Academy

Rei Batsubami transfers into Hyakkaou Private Academy as the assistant for the Hundred Devouring Families.

She is not a family head herself and is seen as lower in rank than Yumeko Jabami.

Kirari Momobami hints that Rei, as a Batsubami, is an "outcast" holding a possible grudge against the other families.

Supporting Others

Rei becomes known for arranging the election games for the families.

She helps many students who suffer because of the academy's unfair treatment of "livestock" students.

This kindness makes her popular and admired.

Rei feels new, confusing emotions when students and Ryouta Suzui thank her for her help.

Emotional Outburst

During the "Public Goods Game", Kaede Manyuda asks Rei if she feels guilty about making others lose.

Rei, usually calm, gets very angry at Yumeko Jabami, shouting, "Are you serious? You know what happens to people thrown into despair, and yet you...!"

The 100 Vote Auction

At the story's end, Rei invites the council, the families, Yumeko Jabami, Mary Saotome, Ryouta Suzui, and others to a secret gambling event called the "100 Vote Auction".

As the auctioneer, Rei cheats by secretly bidding to drive up the price of votes.

She gets the votes by gathering ones from students she had previously helped.

Yumeko Jabami offers to buy 100 votes for 3 billion yen, and when Rei hears this, she takes off her gloves, revealing the marks on her hands.

She changes her hairstyle and eyes, showing her real self.

However, Yumeko’s plan causes everyone to bid only 1 vote, so Rei loses all her votes and the auction ends.

Final Gamble and Redemption

After the auction, Rei finally understands Yumeko Jabami's love for gambling and the words her sister once spoke.

She challenges Yumeko Jabami to a one-time coin toss, betting her family name, but loses the game.

Thanks to her new will to live positively, Kirari Momobami allows Rei to reclaim her family name.

Rei starts wearing the girls' uniform and makeup and continues her school life as her true self.

Rei Batsubami is an anime-only original character and does not appear in the manga.

She is the only major character in the second season to wear a male uniform, even though she is a girl.

"Are you serious? You know what happens to people thrown into despair, and yet you...!!"
