Kirari Momobami is the 105th student council president at Hyakkaou Private Academy and the head of the Momobami family. She is an extremely skilled gambler, known for her deep curiosity and bold, sometimes frightening actions. Kirari changed her school by introducing new rules and systems and wants to gain power in politics and business. Her unpredictable and almost crazy personality makes her both a fascinating and dangerous character. With her strong will and desire to see new things, Kirari is both a reformer and the main rival for the main characters in the story.
Kirari Momobami is 166 cm tall.
She has a very unique hairstyle: two braids made into circular twin tails on each side of her head.
This unusual hairstyle is one of her most famous features.
Kirari is very bold and filled with curiosity.
She gets very interested in things she has never seen or people she cannot understand.
She does not care about common sense, ethics, or feelings of guilt.
Kirari can act cold and do very scary things if she wants to satisfy her curiosity.
She is not afraid of breaking the rules to see something interesting.
Kirari is the current head of the main Momobami family in the powerful Hundred Devouring Families.
Her strong curiosity and wild ideas often cause problems within her family.
Many in her family do not agree with her leading the Momobami family, especially Terano Totobami, who deeply dislikes her.
Kirari’s main goal is to control politics and business in Japan through the academy.
She believes “might makes right,” but she is also driven by curiosity to see what will happen next.
Becoming Council President and Reforms
About two years before the main story, Kirari Momobami became the Momobami family head.
She joined Hyakkaou Private Academy, where children of influential people study.
Kirari beat the previous student council president in a gamble and took over as president.
She quickly introduced big changes, like the hierarchy system based on money, the “pet” system (making lower-ranked students wear dog or cat tags), and the Life Plan Sheet.
She also made all money and debts (even for graduates) go through her and the student council, increasing her power outside the school.
Curiosity and Extreme Actions
Kirari is famous for her wild curiosity.
If someone cannot pay a big debt, she doesn’t mind doing shocking things.
For example, when Midari Ikishima lost a gamble against Kirari and could not pay her 300 million yen debt, Kirari said she wanted to buy Midari's left eye for 300 million yen because she had never seen the back of an eyeball.
She then arranged for surgery after school.
Midari ended up removing her own left eye, so the surgery never happened.
Dissolving the Student Council
When Yumeko Jabami joined the school, things changed for Kirari.
She decided to break up the student council and start a new election for president and Momobami head.
All students and heads of the other Momobami families joined the competition.
The fight for the titles became a fierce battle that involved everyone.
Kirari uses first names without honorifics when talking to others, similar to the way names are used in America or Europe.
At first meeting, she called Mary Saotome “Mary Saotome-san” but quickly changed to just “Mary.”
She speaks in casual and sometimes commanding language, never using honorifics like “-san.”
Here’s how she addresses some people:
- Yumeko Jabami: Yumeko
- Mary Saotome: Mary
- Ryouta Suzui: Ryouta
- Itsuki Sumeragi: Itsuki
- Yuriko Nishinotouin: Yuriko
- Midari Ikishima: Midari
- Yumemi Yumemite: Yumemi
- Sayaka Igarashi: Sayaka
- Runa Yomozuki: Runa
- Kaede Manyuda: Kaede
- Ririka Momobami: Ririka
- Terano Totobami: Terano
- Erimi Mushibami: Erimi
- Sumika Warakubami: Sumika
- Rin Obami: Rin
- Rei Batsubami: Rei
Others usually call her “President,” “Kirari,” “President Kirari,” or “Kirari-sama.”
“Hyakkaou Academy is… my aquarium… a closed world that circulates beautifully, where the strong eat the weak… But now someone is here to disturb it, Yumeko!”
“Interesting. You, join the student council!”
- Kirari is the main antagonist and the strongest character in Kakegurui.
- When she arrived, old ideas like school caste and discrimination got more visible and severe.
- The main reason she does things is because she wants to see what happens, not because of right or wrong.
- She doesn’t care if her own creations or power are destroyed—she just wants to observe what’s interesting.
Kirari’s entrance into Hyakkaou was to build connections with the powerful students and their families, aiming to eventually control the entire country.
Her vision is a world where only the strong survive and everyone fights for power.
But at her core, she simply wants to see the results of her actions, making her both dangerous and unpredictable.
