Hibukuro

Hibukuro is often shown as a strong and rugged man. Because of injuries to his legs, he walks using a long spear as a cane. He looks like someone who has faced a lot of struggles.

Hibukuro is brave, stubborn, and cares deeply about justice. He hates the way samurai treat farmers and is ready to risk his life for his people. He refuses to take the easy way out, even when others suggest he should.

Hibukuro started as a farmer but became a bandit leader after losing patience with the cruel samurai. Along with his wife, Ojiya, he raised Dororo. His life is full of challenges, betrayals, and tough choices. He never let hardships stop him from fighting for what’s right.

Hibukuro is skilled with the spear and can fight many enemies at once. Even when badly injured, he keeps fighting to protect his loved ones.

• Itachi: His former follower who betrays him and causes much of Hibukuro’s downfall.

Leader of Farmer Bandits

Hibukuro leads a group of farmers who attack samurai, standing up against injustice. When his follower Itachi suggests working with the samurai for an easier life, Hibukuro refuses. Itachi betrays him, taking many men to the enemy side.

The Betrayal and Great Loss

Because of Itachi's betrayal and working with the local lord, most of Hibukuro’s men are killed. Hibukuro is shot many times in the legs and can barely walk, using his spear to move. The family starts wandering, always struggling.

Fight for His Family

While wandering, Hibukuro, Ojiya, and Dororo end up in a village where they meet samurai. One of the samurai remembers Hibukuro and attacks. Hibukuro fights bravely, defeating all attackers to protect his wife and son, but is finally shot by the last samurai. He dies in the battle, making sure his family is safe.

The Hidden Treasure Map

Before dying, Hibukuro hides a treasure stolen from the samurai in a cave. He believes this treasure will help the weak farmers fight back. Ojiya tattoos the location of the treasure on Dororo’s back, making Dororo part of Hibukuro’s secret plan for justice.

Anime Version Differences

• In the anime, Dororo is old enough to understand what’s happening when Hibukuro is betrayed.
• Hibukuro does not attack the official’s house, and he gets shot by enemy arrows before a big fight.
• The treasure map is split between Ojiya and Dororo.

Live-action Movie

Hibukuro’s role is shorter. When his village is about to be burned for planning a rebellion, Hibukuro steps up, takes the blame, and dies to protect the villagers.
