Character Introduction

Edit
Nicknamed "Shibutaku" (self-proclaimed). His friends call him "Taku" or "Taku-san." The second victim of the Death Note. On November 28, 2003, he was seen by Light on his way back from cram school while hitting on a woman in front of a convenience store. Light wrote his name in the Death Note to test if the detailed cause and circumstances of death would come true. As a result, he died when he was run over by a dump truck while trying to chase after the woman who fled. Because he introduced himself verbally to the woman, Light guessed seven different kanji patterns for his name, and by chance, the first one he wrote was correct, activating the curse of death. Although he was a troublesome person, he was not a criminal, so his death left Light with feelings of regret and anguish. However, it also sparked the thought that "rotten people are better off dead," marking a turning point where he began to justify his murders with the Death Note. Later, he told Ryuk that "while killing criminals with heart attacks, he would erase such rotten people through natural deaths or accidents, encouraging those not yet erased to reform." Since he was not a criminal and his cause of death was not a heart attack, his death was not recognized by L. He is chosen in the character personality assessment chart in Volume 13, and the original author Ohba also lists him as one of his favorite characters. In the live-action film, he invades a kindergarten while suffering from drug-induced symptoms, injuring and killing five children, but is acquitted in court due to insanity (though typically, he would be sent to a medical institution, no such depiction is shown, nor is there evidence of being charged for drug use). He boasts about this to his friends, mocks the victims and their families, and even threatens Light with a knife, claiming, "No one can convict me," showing no remorse. He also makes statements suggesting his insanity was merely an act, differing significantly from the original work, and is depicted as a cruel and heinous criminal fitting Kira's target for purification, becoming the direct cause of Light becoming Kira. His appearance also differs greatly from the original, being slim instead of the original's obese build. Light writes his name in the notebook in front of him, and he dies of a heart attack at a railroad crossing. In the anime version, although his appearance is the same as the original, he is depicted as a criminal attempting to assault the woman he hit on, thus becoming a target for Kira's purification. He does not appear in the drama version, and instead, Light's delinquent high school classmate, Sakota Genbu, appears. Light, who did not believe in the power of the notebook, writes his name, and he dies of a heart attack while riding a motorcycle, colliding with a moving train. Born on December 13, 1980 (as per the live-action film setting).
