Shasuryu leads the Green Claw tribe, one of the major lizardman tribes dwelling in the wetlands.

He is married, though it is not revealed whether he has any children.

He was once ranked 11th out of 12 in an author-made “ruler competence ranking,” humorously described as suffering from a “small world,” yet the author notes that he is still more capable than the ordinary human Suzuki Satoru was in life.

His voice actor in the anime adaptation is Naomi Kusumi.

Personality

Shasuryu is a well-balanced leader who combines martial strength, priestly power, and clear-headed judgment.

He enjoys deep trust not only from his own tribe but also from the other lizardman chieftains.

He is notably rational and pragmatic, willing to prioritize survival and strategy over emotional attachment.

When the lizardmen receive a declaration of total extermination, he calmly approves Zaryusu’s harsh plan to unite the tribes under a single banner, recognizing it as the logically correct choice even though it effectively means “reducing mouths to feed.”

Despite his seriousness, Shasuryu is warm-hearted and deeply cares about his younger brother.

Even while Zaryusu wandered as a traveler struggling with fish farming, Shasuryu supported him from behind the scenes, respecting his path while still watching over him.

He is flexible in a crisis, capable of adapting quickly instead of clinging to tribal tradition or pride.

This adaptability is what allows him to embrace Zaryusu’s unconventional ideas and to successfully lead the five-tribe coalition.

On the more lighthearted side, Shasuryu has a surprisingly down-to-earth and somewhat vulgar streak.

Appearance

Shasuryu is a large male lizardman covered in black scales.

He is clearly bigger and more imposing than Zaryusu, who has an average lizardman build.

His body is marked by numerous old scars that have turned white, standing out like streaks of lightning cutting through dark storm clouds across his skin.

These scars emphasize both his long experience in battle and his ferocity as a warrior.

As a symbol of his position as chieftain, he carries a massive greatsword nearly 2 meters long made of thick steel strapped across his back.

This weapon is not only a ceremonial emblem of authority but also a practical tool that he wields in combat.

Formation of the Five-Tribe Alliance

When Cocytus, acting under Ainz Ooal Gown, sends a herald to announce the planned extermination of all lizardmen, the tribes are thrown into crisis.

Zaryusu proposes that all five tribes unite to resist the coming undead army.

Shasuryu recognizes both the brutal necessity and the strategic soundness of this plan, even though it implies sacrificing many lives.

Setting aside tribal boundaries and personal pride, he moves quickly to contact and negotiate with other chieftains.

Due to his reliability and the respect he commands, Shasuryu is chosen as the overall commander of the five-tribe alliance.

He gives Zaryusu, Crusch Lulu, Zenberu Gugu, and other key fighters the space they need to act independently, without trying to control every detail.

Battle Against the First Undead Army

In the first major clash with the low-ranking undead, Shasuryu leads the lizardmen to a strong tactical advantage.

Even while winning, he observes the enemy’s movements closely and senses that something is off.

He notes that the undead are moving clumsily and inefficiently, as if they are being used merely to gather data.

From this, he deduces that the true purpose of the attack is likely a combat experiment rather than a serious attempt to annihilate the lizardmen.

This realization angers him, since it means that his people’s lives are being treated as nothing more than test subjects.

Even so, he does not allow his anger to cloud his judgment and continues to direct the battle effectively.

While Zaryusu, Zenberu, Crusch, and others engage the powerful undead warrior Iguva-41, Shasuryu takes responsibility for the tribe’s rear.

He intercepts skeletal cavalry attacking from behind and confronts a Blood Meat Hulk, defeating these threats and protecting the lizardman forces from being flanked and overwhelmed.

Second Battle and Death

In the next phase of the conflict, Cocytus himself leads a new, far more dangerous undead army against the lizardmen.

Recognizing that this foe is on an entirely different level, Shasuryu goes into battle alongside the other chieftains and elite warriors.

Shasuryu and Zaryusu fight with remarkable coordination, their movements synchronized in a way only brothers with shared combat experience can achieve.

Despite their best efforts and strategy, Cocytus’s power is overwhelming.

At a critical moment, Shasuryu sacrifices his own safety to create an opening for Zaryusu.

Using his own body as a shield and distraction, he guides his brother toward a final, desperate attack on Cocytus.

Even though their combined strength is not enough to defeat Cocytus, Shasuryu’s actions show his resolve as both a leader and a brother.

He dies in this battle, along with many other lizardman warriors.

Resurrection and Service Under Ainz Ooal Gown

After the battle, Ainz Ooal Gown chooses not to annihilate the lizardmen but to bring some of them back.

Zaryusu’s grief and pleas for his brother move Ainz to resurrect Shasuryu, as well as Zenberu.

Upon his return to life, Shasuryu experiences firsthand the power Ainz and Cocytus wield over life and death.

Like Zaryusu, he comes to regard Ainz as a being on par with a god, a supreme existence to whom resistance is pointless and obedience is rational.

Shasuryu then swears loyalty to Ainz and works under Cocytus’s authority.

He becomes the head of the lizardman coalition village, effectively serving as the representative leader of all tribes that now fall under Cocytus’s command.

In this new role, Shasuryu focuses on organizing the united lizardman community and maintaining order and stability under their undead overlords.

His prior experience as a chieftain and war leader makes him perfectly suited to manage the day-to-day governance of the lizardmen.
