Genjo Tagami

Genjo is an easy to provoke person, and can even resort to violence.

He discriminates against "useless people", chiding Wataru Ushiroda for working slowly. He thinks that people who can't do anything should just be obeying people who can do things. He states that there were many useless people like the former at his company. The more useless they are, the higher their pride, and they didn't have the modesty to learn from others.

He is an ardent believer in following "rules", maintaining a "balanced" society known as "democracy". There is a way to get rid of the "problem" that is used in real life, which is "dismission", an "exile" in prison. He believes that people who "disturb order" and can't do their job should be "fired". Even in the "small" prison, he believes that the prison has a "society", a job, rules, and a goal to reach. There is him who can accomplish, and Ushiroda who cannot. The goal is something that must be achieved no matter what, and it's not something everyone should lose sight of just for the sake of getting along with one another.

He feels that "friendship" is often mistaken for "collusion" when people are young. A real friendship may be priceless, but a fake one is just "shackles" tying one down. With "shackles", one cannot get out of jail. The game is one where people see through and cut off collusion called "friendship". They get out of prison with the rest of the people who can accomplish.

The workforce reduction he conducted was declared unreasonable by the authorities. Therefore, they wanted him to give all the severed workers the proper amount of retirement and consolation money. They viewed his way of thinking as an "oppressive thinking of the strong". From then one, he harbored an even stronger hatred for "useless" people.
