Jashin-kun is a legendary creature awakened from a 10,000-year slumber by Win Kirifuda. He once ruled the ancient beast world and has the power to destroy the universe, showing no hesitation in harming people. However, his full power can only be used during duels, making him and Win depend on each other. After being resurrected from a card, Jashin-kun gets trapped in a cute, small form and can only be summoned by Win. He quickly adapts to the human world, developing a love for octopus-shaped sausages. Though he sometimes acts silly, Jashin-kun is actually very knowledgeable and supports Win in many ways. While he isn’t a loyal companion like previous partners, he sometimes follows orders, especially for a snack!
Jashin-kun originally had a huge, intimidating form as the king of dark gods.
After being summoned by Win Kirifuda, he ends up in a small, deformed “mascot-like” shape about the size of a person.
His new form looks less scary and is even cute to some people.
Jashin-kun is cruel and ruthless, not hesitating to hurt others when needed.
However, he becomes more comedic and easy to tease after losing his powers and form.
He complains when things don’t go his way and loves octopus sausages from the human world.
Despite acting childish, he can surprise everyone with his intelligence, scoring highly on difficult tests.
Jashin-kun is proud and tries to act important, especially toward his old minions.
He still seeks to regain his original body and power.
Jashin-kun was the mighty king of the Abyss, once ruling over a world of ancient beasts.
He was sealed away for 10,000 years until Win accidentally brought him back while dueling.
Due to a mysterious power, Jashin-kun was locked into a small body and could only use his real powers during duels.
He soon learns that he has to cooperate with Win and relies on duels to reveal his true strength.
His name comes from everyone, including Win, calling him "Jashin-kun" after seeing his new form.
Jashin-kun can summon great power—enough to destroy the universe—but only inside duels.
He can pull out things like hammers and grabbing tools from the top of his head.
He can also throw his emotions wildly, which splits his body and creates small minions called Noir Abyss, almost like his children.
When powered-up, he can change into a stronger form and even starts speaking with a different accent and personality in this state.
Jashin-kun has the ability to pull duelists into the "World of the Dark God," a space for special duels where he also punishes losers with weird and scary penalties.
- Win Kirifuda: His “master” in a way, since Win is the only one who can summon him. Jashin-kun and Win depend on each other. He cannot disobey Win after being transformed.
- Abyss Royal Minions: Jashin-kun tries to act like a proud king in front of his old subjects, but they tease him about losing control over his powers.
- Friends & Duelists: He interacts with various people during the series. Sometimes he uses them, sometimes he shows hidden care.
- Jashin-kun loves octopus-shaped sausages from the human world, calling them his favorite food.
- He can do well on even the hardest mock entrance exams, showing he is very smart.
- No matter how silly he acts, he still tries to find a way to return to his original form.
- He gets easily distracted by snacks and games.
- His one-liner is: “Summon me, and seize the darkness…!”
"Summon me, and seize the darkness…!"
Awakening and the New Form
Jashin-kun is awakened from his 10,000-year sleep by Win Kirifuda in the middle of a duel.
He sneaks into Win’s deck as a card and appears from the void.
After being summoned in battle, he bursts into the real world but is quickly sealed back into card form.
Surprisingly, he cannot use his full powers unless a duel is happening and is stuck in a smaller, less scary body.
Jashin-kun is shocked and unhappy but soon must accept that he relies on Win and the duels to exist.
Daily Life and Adaptation
Living with Win, Jashin-kun learns to enjoy human culture and foods, especially falling in love with octopus sausage.
He becomes more like a fun sidekick but still sometimes tries to steal power and act powerful.
Abyss Cards and Growing Powers
To restore himself, Jashin-kun realizes he needs more Abyss Cards—special cards that only sometimes appear when Win grows emotionally.
These new cards help him slowly try to return to his true form.
Duel Academy Arc
When his emotions explode, Jashin-kun discovers he can split and create small minion creatures called Noir Abyss.
He loves and treasures these minions, treating them like his own children.
Sometimes the Noir Abyss grow and develop all by themselves, making him very happy.
After being provoked by Professor Ripper, Jashin-kun transforms into a powered-up version with a new way of talking and a rougher attitude.
Special Duels and "Dark God Time"
Jashin-kun can pull those who lose duels into a special place called the “World of the Dark God” for punishment time, known as “Dark God Time.”
There, he gives unique, often silly but scary, punishments to losers or their friends.
Most of the time, people think these events were just dreams, as they cannot be recorded.
Duel Masters LOST
In Duel Masters LOST (a possible parallel story), Jashin-kun appears in his true form at the end of episode 1 and reunites with Win.
He hints that he and Win once made an important promise before Win lost his memories.
However, the current Win does not even remember Jashin-kun and is afraid of him.
Examples of "Dark God Time" Punishments
- Bowie Obachiyama: Forced to turn a giant hand-crank as hard labor.
- Chibakabura: Has all his "duel juice" drawn out with a syringe.
- Runner: Placed on a plate with a cloche, but the punishment is stopped halfway.
- Unchiku: Tongue is stretched and tied into a bow.
- Mazuki & Kendra: Made to bungee jump over sharks and then dropped in.
- Underground Duelists: Dropped into a cave with lava poured in.
- Paparin: Wrestled by a muscular Jashin-kun and Eliza-sensei together.
- Mazuki & Kendra (again): Attacked by a monster from a well and fall in.
- Fargo: Swarmed by Noir Abyss minions until he decays into a skeleton.
- Shimo & Kawa with Paparin: Turned into card sleeves and played with until night.
Jashin-kun can pull out various tools from his head during funny scenes.
He often changes the mood with his dramatic or silly antics.
No matter what, Jashin-kun adds fun and chaos to the world of Duel Masters!
