He appears in the original manga from volume 1, chapters 11 to 13 (which corresponds to episode 4 of the TV anime), as well as in episode 11 of the TV anime. Yuki Endō's grandfather is a farmer and is quite a unique individual. He loves space so much that he altered his JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives) hat by handwriting "JAXA" on it. His personality is playful, and when the Earth Sciences Club visited for their training camp, he welcomed them warmly.
