Akuru Akutsu, often called "Akkun," is one of the two main protagonists of the series and the long-suffering childhood friend of Yoshiko Hanabatake.
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 60 kg
Blood Type: AB
Birthday: May 20
Hobbies: Playing solitaire-style memory games alone
He lives alone in Room 201 on the second floor of a small apartment building right next to the Hanabatake family's house.
Because his room and Yoshiko's room share an adjacent balcony, he suffers her relentless invasions day and night, regardless of whether he is asleep or awake.
A diligent honor student with top grades, he has declared he will choose death if he fails to get into his first choice, the University of Tokyo.
His elite prep school is far from home, so he deliberately chose to attend the same local high school as Yoshiko and the others instead, believing that "trivial time spent on a long commute is better spent studying."
He always carries reference books with him wherever he goes, often stashing extra ones under his shirt for quick access.
Despite his neatly handsome looks and fundamentally common-sense nature, his sharp glare and unsociable, solitude-loving personality leave him completely friendless.
Initially, the only phone numbers registered in his mobile phone were his home, Yoshiko, and the Hanabatake household.
Sayaka Sumino and the Head of the Public Morals Committee were added much later as his contacts.
He has spent his whole life tormented by Yoshiko, and since he generally has zero interest in other people, his words and actions often lack basic consideration, especially toward women.
His lack of interpersonal experience also leads to many socially awkward actions.
His pride is extraordinarily high.
When he found out that his perfect score on every subject in the test right after summer vacation of his second year was partly due to indirect assistance from Sayaka and the Morals Committee Head, he flew into a rage.
He hates Yoshiko so deeply that he feels genuine murderous intent, listing "enough money and power to erase Yoshiko" as his one true wish.
The sole exception he makes is that "meeting Yoshiko's family dog" was a good thing in his life.
Despite this, he grudgingly looks after her, driven by a request from Yoshiko’s mother and his own dread of the disaster that would follow if Yoshiko were unleashed upon society.
This complicated situation leads to misunderstandings around them, and Yoshiko’s mother has her sights firmly set on him as a future husband for her daughter.
He's convinced he has no future unless his ties to Yoshiko are severed or her stupidity is cured, so he doesn’t hesitate to use physical force to reform her lifestyle.
He even trains his body for this purpose, but Yoshiko’s sheer stamina and persistence frequently overpower him, leaving him enraged that his efforts bear no fruit.
If he can't turn her into a decent human being, he’s seriously considered getting her sent to prison for minor crimes.
His positive qualities are few, but he does have the capacity to acknowledge someone who recognizes their own flaws and genuinely tries to overcome them, as long as they are not Yoshiko.
However, he is brutally harsh to those he makes a bad first impression of, like Ryuichi, whom he mercilessly tears apart with logic rather than fists.
A lover of solo mind games, he possesses an incredible talent for gaming.
When he picked up the rhythm game "AiTatsu" just to win a card his little sister Ruri wanted, he memorized the most difficult stage's complex note chart in just one hour.
He then proceeded to score perfectly on it with his eyes closed.
On his second playthrough ever, he rocketed his way to third place on the national leaderboard.
This feat earned him the nickname "The Precision Machine (High-Spec Machine) Akutsu" from Yoshiko.
He has terrible stamina and is particularly bad at swimming.
His relationship with others is starkly defined by two extremes: obsessive love and obsessive hatred.
With His Sister, Ruri
He obsessively dotes on his younger sister Ruri to an unnerving degree.
His sister complex is so severe that when he hurts her feelings, he readily discards his immense pride, attaches an honorific equivalent to "Lady" to her name, and desperately begs for forgiveness.
Despite this intense affection, he often unintentionally wounds her with careless words and actions, and she hardly holds him in high regard as a beloved older brother in return.
With His Tormentor, Yoshiko
Their dynamic is a constant war that he almost always loses.
His lack of stamina means he often ends up overwhelmed by her unending physical energy and stubbornness, adding to his constant state of irritation and despair over ever reforming her.
With Others
For anyone he perceives as an enemy other than Yoshiko, he doesn't resort to the same kind of violence, preferring to verbally demolish them by wielding his sharp logic.
