He was also connected to the murder guild "Laughing Coffin" and held a grudge against Kirito after losing a duel to him. He attempted to kill Kirito during a combat training session organized by Godfrey, disguising it as an accident (revealing his true, crazed nature in the process), but failed due to Asuna's intervention. He then pretended to beg for his life and tried to deceive Asuna, but was killed by Kirito, who protected her at the cost of his own safety.
