Character Setting

Edit

Gallice is a Black Whistle delver and a member of the "Umbra Hands," Bondrewd's elite delving team. He is also one of the distinctive "Shroud" members, known for his unique equipment and mastery of flame-based techniques, earning him the epithet "Gallice of Ash."

He encountered Reg in the third layer and politely returned the "Unending Spanner" that Reg had lost. In the "Joint Grand Exploration" detailed in "How Are You, Somewhere #04," he served as the Grand Exploration Squad Leader under General Commander Hablog.

"Go back to your friends immediately."

"The Lord of Dawn awaits your arrival eagerly."

Gallice is a delver belonging to the "Umbra Hands" delving team, which is led by the Lord of Dawn, Bondrewd. His rank is Black Whistle.

He first appeared in original manga volume 4, working to resolve a crisis in the Fourth Layer of the Abyss, "Garden of the Unmoving Flowers." This area had become a colony for the dangerous creature Quongatari. His name was not revealed in his initial appearance but was later disclosed via a tweet from the original author.

He reappeared in original manga volume 11, where his name was formally reintroduced. Under the command of Black Whistle Hablog, he serves as the Squad Leader of the Joint Grand Exploration Team.

Like other Umbra Hands, Gallice is armored with a full-body suit, an artifact processed product known as the "Umbral Veil." He additionally wears a white outer cloak over this armor, which is called a "Shroud" and is seemingly worn only by specific Umbra Hands.

His mask design notably differs from Bondrewd's and other Umbra Hands, as it is not black with glowing lines. Instead, it features a white base with two lenses and a distinctive piece of cloth hanging from the lower half of his face.

Surprisingly, his true face is quite youthful. He is a man characterized by his hair parted to the sides and a prominent nose.

Gallice uses "Ore" as his first-person pronoun and addresses Reg with "Kimi." He refers to his leader, Bondrewd, as "Lord of Dawn" or "that person."

In the theatrical anime version of "Dawn of the Deep Soul," he speaks in a rather monotone manner. This characteristic is somewhat common among other Umbra Hands as well.

Compared to Bondrewd and Gueira, his tone is somewhat brusque, and combined with his appearance, he comes across as quite intimidating. However, he acts quite reasonably, politely dealing with Reg, who openly showed hostility and wariness. He even returned the "Unending Spanner" he found.

He also has a surprisingly friendly side, such as waving back in response to Clavari's strange greeting.

He is a special Umbra Hand known as a "Shroud." His primary weapon is a flamethrower carried at his waist, earning him the epithet "Gallice of Ash." Clavari also refers to him as "Flame Guy" behind his back.

Although his combat has not been explicitly shown yet, his ability to easily get behind Reg suggests he possesses very high combat capabilities.

During the extermination of the Quongatari, he spread combustible materials throughout the "Garden of the Unmoving Flowers," which had become their stronghold. As soon as the colony entered its active phase, he resolved the situation using a rather drastic method, incinerating the entire area, including the delvers who had set up the materials.

To clarify for Gallice's honor, the Quongatari incident was an emergency where leaving it unchecked would endanger the entire Abyss. His actions were based on the judgment that "since the Quongatari had entered their active phase, those delvers could no longer be saved." In their natural habitat, the Sixth Layer of the Abyss, a Quongatari colony's danger level is comparable to a Lyuusaazai, making Gallice's decision quite unavoidable.

In the theatrical anime version of "Dawn of the Deep Soul," the voice actors for the Umbra Hands are credited collectively, so Gallice's specific voice actor has not been officially revealed. However, there is a theory that the credit order corresponds to the order of appearance in the film. If this theory holds true, Gallice, being the first to appear, might be voiced by Yoshimitsu Shimoyama. (Please note this is only fan speculation.)

However, Mr. Shimoyama himself has mentioned Gallice on Twitter, making this speculation highly likely to be accurate.
