Alucard is the main protagonist of the series *Hellsing*, a vampire bound in service to the Hellsing family.
Alucard typically appears as a tall, slender young man with long black hair.
He is most often seen wearing a vivid red long coat and a pair of sunglasses.
His preferred fighting style is the dual-wielding of two massive pistols.
These are the white .454 Casull Custom Automatic and the black Jackal, both of which serve as his signature weapons.
Alucard is profoundly arrogant, insolent, and acts without any regard for others.
He speaks with casual impertinence even to his master, Integra, and takes immense pleasure in battle, often mocking, toying with, and tormenting his opponents before killing them.
He has no qualms about causing collateral damage, and will mercilessly slaughter even those who challenge him while being unknowingly manipulated.
Unsealed States
As a vampire, he possesses overwhelming power, but this is actually his strength under a restrictive seal known as the "Cromwell" control system.
He can partially release this seal according to an opponent's strength, with states numbered from Level 1 to Level 3, plus a final Level Zero.
Death's River
Releasing the final Level Zero frees every life he has ever consumed as a legion of the undead, a torrent known as the "River of Death."
During this release, however, Alucard's own stock of lives is reduced to a single one, causing him to lose his immortality.
Shapeshifting
He considers his form meaningless and can change it at will, having notably taken the shape of a young girl.
When unleashing the River of Death, he also returns to the visage he had when he first transformed from a human—a fierce, middle-aged man.
Alucard's true identity is Count Dracula himself, the very figure from the novel *Dracula*, and the former monarch of Wallachia.
In his distant past, he was a devoted follower of Christ who led a crusade against the Arab world, but upon failing, being captured, and facing execution, he abandoned his humanity and became a vampire.
Over centuries, he has consumed the blood and lives of both enemy soldiers and his own subjects, becoming a vampire who houses countless souls within himself, their number reaching into the millions.
Despite his contemptuous demeanor, Alucard does not hold humanity itself in disdain.
He sees great value in the human capacity to "never give up" and considers his own monstrous existence to be that of a weak being who could not endure the pain of being human.
This belief led him to hold Alexander Anderson, a man who faced him as a human, as a worthy nemesis, and to feel a profound shock and desperation when Anderson finally chose to become a monster of thorns, begging him not to follow the same path.
His name, Alucard, is simply "Dracula" spelled backwards.
