Sachiko Kasukabe

A key figure in this work, she is Hayato's grandmother and the original master. She passed away and was born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1945. Her maiden name was Matsushima. After her son and his wife died, she took in her grandson Hayato, but they had a falling out three years ago. She managed "Familia" alone, but apparently lacked business acumen as the management continued to struggle (Hayato mentioned it was "almost always in the red").

After Hayato moved to Tokyo, she employed Ouka and others to live and work with her, enjoying her days. One day, saying she was "tired from laughing" and wanted to lie down, she passed away while lying in the kotatsu. Her funeral was conducted by Ouka and the others, and it took a long time before Hayato was informed by the government office. Ouka and the others did not do any housework, so she did it all by herself, which Hayato suspected might have contributed to her passing when they first met.

In 1961, at the age of 16, she was employed at "Café Familia" through group employment, later living and working with the women who would become the grandmothers of the five heroines. From the age of 18, she aimed to become a professional chef and trained at various famous restaurants. By 1988, at the age of 43, she moved to the West after her son graduated from high school. She served as the head chef for 15 years at a restaurant in Spain, earning a reputation as a three-star chef, and under her tutelage, Shiragiku's father, Norio, also trained and flourished as a three-star chef.

In 2005, she planned to open a new restaurant in Spain, but returned to Japan to take care of young Hayato after her son and his wife died in a car accident. She gave up working as a chef to look after Hayato and opened the home-based café "Familia," which operated at a loss. She even borrowed money from Shigehisa and her disciple Norio to keep the business running. It was later revealed that all these were her considerations to not leave young Hayato alone by having her own restaurant as a chef.
