He is Tokiyuki's father and the head of the Hojo clan. Although he is the supreme commander of the Kamakura shogunate, his political power is held by his close aides, making him a puppet, and he has the appearance of a broken man. When Kamakura was overrun by the forces of Emperor Go-Daigo, led by Nitta Yoshisada, he entrusted Tokiyuki to Yorishige and committed suicide. He has a weak constitution. Despite being a puppet, he has a side that shows his samurai heritage, as he enjoys watching archery competitions. He was passionate about teaching Tokiyuki archery, which allowed Tokiyuki to develop a respectable skill in the art.
