Rikako Aida is a multifaceted Japanese talent known as a voice actress, singer, and actress. Born in 1992, she hails from Tokyo and is best recognized for her role as Riko Sakurauchi in the popular “Love Live! Sunshine!!” series and as a member of the idol group Aqours. Rikako launched her solo music career in 2019, becoming the first artist to debut under the DMM music/Astro Voice label. She stands out with her devotion to her craft, her gorgeous visuals (dubbed as “the most beautiful in the voice acting world”), and a refreshing, authentic personality. In 2024, she began her activities as a VTuber under the persona “Rikyako,” delighting fans with her lively streaming content.

Rikako Aida was raised as an only child in a single-mother household.

She spent four years of her childhood in Los Angeles, thanks to her mother's studies abroad.

This experience turned her from a shy, quiet kid into someone who could adapt and handle change with confidence.

Returning to Japan in grade school, she was soon scouted and became involved in child acting and modeling.

Her passion for the performing arts solidified during high school, when a chance encounter with the anime “Gintama” sparked her enthusiasm for voice acting.

Despite her mother’s initial concerns about the career shift, Rikako confidently pursued her dream, attending Ken Production's theater school.

Early in her entertainment career, she worked under the name Rikako Ito.

Rikako's professional voice acting debut was in 2014.

Her breakthrough came in 2015 when she landed the role of Riko Sakurauchi in “Love Live! Sunshine!!” and started her journey with Aqours.

This launched her into the heart of the idol scene, engaging in live concerts, events, and numerous multimedia performances.

She actively maintains a presence on Instagram and Twitter, sharing behind-the-scenes insights and connecting with fans.

Aida’s career further blossomed when she released her first photo book and starred in lead roles, such as Jackie in “The Bears' School” movie.

Her venture into solo music was solidified with her debut EP, “Principal,” and her single “for...” which topped the charts.

She has diversified her roles to include TV narration, game voice acting, drama performances, ASMR recordings, and high-profile anime theme songs.

In 2024, Aida transformed her lively persona into the digital world, starting VTuber activities as “Rikyako” on her official YouTube channel.

In 2017, Rikako and Aqours received the Singing Award at the 11th Seiyu Awards, marking her as a key player in the voice acting and idol community.

She made her solo debut at Animelo Summer Live 2019 and has hosted and performed at a large number of live concerts and special events.

Her photo book sold over 28,000 copies, and she’s been lauded repeatedly for her charm and authenticity, being dubbed “the most beautiful” in her industry.

Rikako is known for her close friendship with actress Hikari Kajiwara, whom she affectionately calls her “trusted friend.”

She maintains strong bonds with her Aqours teammates, especially highlighting their companionship as “delayed youth” and a source of treasured memories and personal growth.

Rikako’s stage name was inspired by the legendary beauty Yang Guifei, reflecting her mother’s hopes that she’d grow up to be beautiful herself.

She is described as serious, a bit of a perfectionist, somewhat introverted, and a homebody.

Aida is deeply introspective, and although she enjoys being in the spotlight, she also confesses to being quite shy.

Her core values include “staying true to one’s initial intentions,” “cherishing each connection” (ichigo ichie), and embracing the motto “Life is gambling.”

She learned to take a positive view of her sincerity—a trait she once saw as a weakness—thanks to her experiences with Aqours.

Rikako is passionate about films (especially horror), cooking, and documentary programs. She has quirky habits like long baths and a ritual of drinking hot water every morning.

Despite not participating in school clubs, she found her sense of “youth” and teamwork through Aqours.

Rikako's first exposure to anime was “Sailor Moon,” which left a lasting impression on her.

Her voice is naturally on the lower side, which she brings out when voicing younger male characters.

She’s openly discussed her initial doubts about her uniqueness as a voice actress but has grown to embrace her own style.

Aida is disciplined in her work and values self-improvement, often seeking inspiration from both live-action performances and anime.

She looks up to stars like Ayumi Hamasaki, Yu Aoi, Eri Kitamura, Maaya Uchida, and GACKT, and she’s an unapologetic fan of B’z and SPYAIR.

Aida is famous for not looking back; she prefers to focus on the present and future, staying in the moment while welcoming new challenges in her career.

Besides her work as a voice actress, singer, and idol, Aida appears in dramas, films, TV, and radio.

She performs in stage plays, participates in many fan events, and makes regular appearances at major anime conventions.

Her digital activities include live streaming as a VTuber, engaging with fans directly on YouTube under her “Rikyako” persona.
