Kouta Hirano is a classmate of Takashi Komuro and a close companion of Saya Takagi in the story.

He is introduced as an overweight military enthusiast who becomes an invaluable combat asset during the outbreak.

At first, Kouta uses “boku” (a soft, modest first-person pronoun) to refer to himself.

However, when he explodes in anger at Kōichi Shidōu, his speech shifts to the rougher “ore,” and over time this becomes his standard self-reference, reflecting his more aggressive side.

Despite his timid, gentle demeanor in everyday life, Kouta transforms into a fiercely combative fighter the moment he holds a gun.
