Keigo Atobe

Atobe is a handsome young man whose most defining feature is the beauty mark under his right eye.

His hair color is famously inconsistent across different media. He has blonde hair in the manga, dark purple hair in the anime, and silver hair in the stage musicals. According to the manga, his eyes are blue.

After a significant loss, he boldly shaves his head but later returns wearing a flawless wig, maintaining his signature look.

Atobe carries himself with the pomp and arrogance of a king, a title he has proudly given himself. He is a grandiose narcissist with a love for battle and a flair for the dramatic.

Beneath his haughty exterior lies a surprisingly caring and responsible leader. He personally vouched for Ryo Shishido's return to the team and helped search for a missing Ryoma Echizen before a critical match.

While he appears cool and calculating during matches, he is deeply passionate about tennis and fiercely loyal to his friends and teammates. His immense charisma is a natural trait that made him the team's captain from the moment he joined.

He is also a relentlessly hard worker, driven by past struggles to constantly better himself. Despite his regal status, he is surprisingly approachable and knows how to have a good time.

As the heir to the immensely wealthy "Atobe Zaibatsu," Atobe lives a life of unparalleled luxury. His family makes substantial donations to Hyotei Academy, and he thinks nothing of treating his entire team to extravagant outings.

He is a returnee who spent his formative years in England. This experience was humbling, as he struggled to keep up with his peers, which ignited his unyielding drive for self-improvement.

Upon entering Hyotei, he immediately revolutionized the tennis club, overthrowing its old-fashioned, seniority-based system. He established a new order based purely on skill, proving his own by single-handedly defeating Ryo Shishido and Gakuto Mukahi in a 2-on-1 match.

Considered the "All-Rounder among All-Rounders," Atobe is a masterful player with top-tier skills across the board. His game is built upon his exceptional "Insight," which allows him to discern his opponents' weaknesses.

His play style evolved from an ultra-aggressive offense to one of endurance. He now enjoys drawing out matches, using his immense stamina to break his opponents' spirits and make them submit.

While he does not use the State of Self-Actualization, he claims that for most techniques, he can "naturally do it anyway!"

• Insight: Atobe's superhuman vision, which allows him to instantly identify an opponent's weak spots and blind spots on the court.
• World of Ice (Koori no Sekai): An advanced form of Insight where the opponent's blind spots are visualized as towering pillars of ice, allowing Atobe to target them with perfect accuracy.
• Atobe Kingdom: The ultimate evolution of Insight. Atobe can see his opponent's skeleton, allowing him to target "absolute blind spots"—areas that are physically impossible to reach due to skeletal structure and joint limitations.
• Rondo Towards Destruction (Hametsu e no Rondo): A two-part technique. The first smash knocks the opponent's racket out of their hand, and the second is an unreturnable follow-up smash.
• Tannhäuser Serve: A serve that doesn't bounce, instead sliding low and fast across the court. It was originally an anime-only move that was later incorporated into the manga.
• Fugue to Despair (Shitsui e no Fuga): A variation of his Rondo, where the follow-up shot slides like the Tannhäuser Serve after knocking the opponent's racket away.

He is always accompanied by the loyal and powerful Munehiro Kabaji, his ever-present attendant whom he trusts implicitly. He shares a profound and respectful rivalry with Seigaku's captain, Kunimitsu Tezuka, whom he also considers a friend.

He is a mentor to his successor, Wakashi Hiyoshi, and is particularly indulgent toward the adoring Jiro Akutagawa. To his legions of fans, he affectionately refers to them as "Mesuneko" (Female Cats), a title they embrace with pride.

Atobe's life is a testament to his extravagant wealth and immense popularity. He lives in a palace-like mansion and once flew the entire tennis team to Hokkaido just so Jiro could have crab.

He famously dominates the annual Valentine's Day chocolate rankings. In 2014, he received a staggering 62,837 chocolates. When he came in 3rd place in 2017, his distraught fans held a live-streamed "reflection meeting," prompting the magazine to create a special award for his total lifetime chocolates.

His birthday, October 4th, often becomes a national trending topic on social media in Japan and has even been mentioned on NHK news.

To celebrate his 2014 birthday, confectionery company Morinaga created a pixel art mosaic of him using 8,664 DARS chocolates.

In 2022, on the "anniversary of the Atobe Kingdom's founding," he supposedly made it snow in Tokyo, further cementing his legendary status.

In the Tokyo Tournament, Atobe secured a clean victory against Hajime Mizuki.

His first major showdown was in the Kanto Tournament first round against Kunimitsu Tezuka. He engaged Tezuka in a grueling endurance battle, ultimately winning after a hard-fought tiebreak against the injured captain.

During the National Tournament quarterfinals, he faced Ryoma Echizen with a shocking stipulation: the loser must shave his head. Atobe dominated early with his "World of Ice," but Ryoma's relentless evolution turned the tide. After an exhausting tiebreak, Atobe lost consciousness while still on his feet and, true to his word, had his hair shaved off immediately after the match.

The New Prince of Tennis

At the U-17 training camp, Atobe faced his junior, Wakashi Hiyoshi, in a play-off match. He defeated Hiyoshi while inspiring him to find his own "Hyotei call" and lead the team in the future.

In a match against the prodigy Kanata Irie, Atobe was pushed to his absolute limit. He evolved his Insight into the "Atobe Kingdom" but the match ended in a draw, with both players unable to continue. Later, he teamed up with Masaharu Nio to defeat the first-string pair of Tsukimitsu Ochi and Jusaburō Mōri, earning a coveted spot on the top team.

Chosen as the captain of the middle schoolers for the U-17 World Cup, Atobe faced a harsh reality check when he and Irie were utterly defeated by Q.P. and a now-professional Tezuka. During the qualifiers, he disguised himself as Nio to win a crucial doubles match for Japan alongside Shusuke Fuji, debuting his new "Emperor of Ice" serve.

In the final tournament to decide the World Cup finalists, Atobe ultimately secured a spot in a twist of fate. He lost to Irie, but because all high school slots were filled, Irie was disqualified, allowing Atobe to advance. In the World Cup finals, he played Singles 3 against Romeo Fernandes and claimed victory for Japan.
