Hiiragi

Hiiragi is the elder sister of Satsuki, one of the fox girls associated with the hot spring inn Konohana-Tei.

She makes her first substantial appearance in volume 2 of Konohana Kitan.

She is depicted with striking silver hair and water-blue eyes, giving her a cool and somewhat ethereal appearance.

Despite this elegant look, her speech style is rougher, as she refers to herself using “ore,” a typically masculine first-person pronoun.

Hiiragi has a free-spirited and uninhibited personality.

She tends to follow her own desires and dislikes being constrained by strict expectations.

Rather than behaving like a stereotypical quiet shrine maiden, she is energetic and expressive.

This contrast between role and personality is part of her charm and a source of tension with others.

Hiiragi was originally supposed to go to Konohana-Tei to work as an attendant.

However, it was decided that she had issues in terms of suitability for that role.

Instead, she became a shrine maiden because she excelled in singing and dancing, talents that suited ceremonial shrine duties.

This change of course meant that Satsuki, who had dreamed of becoming a shrine maiden herself, went to Konohana-Tei as an attendant in Hiiragi’s place.

This role reversal is a key point in both characters’ histories.

It explains why their lives diverged so sharply despite being sisters.

Relationship with Satsuki

Hiiragi and Satsuki have a classic love-hate sibling dynamic.

On the surface, they appear to be at odds and are often described as being like “dog and monkey,” constantly clashing with one another.

Their antagonism stems from the swapped paths in life: Hiiragi becoming the shrine maiden and Satsuki being sent to Konohana-Tei instead.

Satsuki’s dream was to serve as a shrine maiden, so this reversal naturally created friction between them.

Despite their bickering and apparent rivalry, they genuinely acknowledge each other’s talents deep down.

Hiiragi respects Satsuki’s abilities as an attendant, and Satsuki recognizes Hiiragi’s gifts in song, dance, and ceremonial duties, even if they rarely say it aloud.
