Character Setting

Edit

Christoph Scissorman is a cunning and skilled knight who stands out for both his research talents and his battle experience. Known as the "Black Rook" of Einberg, Christoph is closest to Noland von Lüneberg, the most feared member, and often acts as his trusted agent. He teaches Ash, Noland's adopted child, and serves as both a mentor and an assassin rather than a traditional knight. Christoph is suspicious of the mysterious Geass powers and investigates them on his own, even orchestrating risky plans involving captured enemies and experimental facilities. He is cold, ruthless, and quick to use minimal force to achieve his deadly goals, but also operates with a sense of twisted honesty about trust and manipulation. His story is full of dramatic confrontations, betrayals, and calculated risks, making him a complex and memorable figure.

Christoph is a thin man with white hair mixed with pink and an often worried look due to his drooping eyebrows.

In flashbacks, his hair is gray, suggesting that the pink is not his natural hair color.

He acts in a carefree but sly manner.

He does not care much for strict ranks and will call younger members "boy" or "girl" without hesitation.

He is direct and even ruthless, teaching others to fight using the least movement and aiming straight for the enemy's weak spots.

Despite his cold and professional front, he isn't afraid to mock others harshly and says exactly what he thinks about trust and power.

Known as the Black Rook of Einberg, Christoph Scissorman is a senior member of the group but holds a middle place in the ranking.

He is closest to Noland von Lüneberg, knowing him since Noland's days as a Knight of the Rounds.

Christoph’s territory is Asahikawa, and he usually pilots the close-combat Knightmare Frame called "Elgripe."

He often acts as Noland’s personal agent or bodyguard, sometimes even receiving secret orders over the group's queen, Nara Vaughn.

Partly because of his unique status, Christoph doesn’t follow typical rules and feels comfortable addressing important people in a casual manner.

He is also the master who taught Ash his combat skills, making him a real mentor figure rather than just another knight.

He is trained in assassination-style combat, focusing on efficient, close-up attacks that target vital spots.

This makes him more of an assassin than a knight in the usual sense.

He has great technical skills both in fighting and in research.

He collected old records about the Geass and even recognized the need to study its powers independently.

He has a long-standing and close relationship with Noland von Lüneberg, calling him "you" casually and acting as his confidant.

Christoph taught Ash his combat style, acting as Ash’s master, and knows every detail of Ash’s fighting moves.

He investigates the actions of prisoners affected by Geass, and he directly clashes with Sakuya Sumeragi and Rozé, as well as Ash, who he knows very well.

  • "Here’s a parting gift for you. Take it."
  • "Your movements waste too much energy. A single cut to a vital spot is all it takes to kill a human. Always finish your enemy with the least amount of effort."
  • "Do you want to know? I will study you completely! We will create a Geass with our own hands! That is my project."
  • "Understood. Now... let me show you..."
  • "Sumeragi... Sakuya Sumeragi commands you...!"
  • "Ash!"
  • "Who would ever become your puppet..."

Secret Agent and Researcher

Christoph Scissorman is the Black Rook of Einberg and is well known for his close relationship with Noland von Lüneberg.

He prefers to act alone when given secret tasks—sometimes even above Nara Vaughn, who is supposed to be the queen of the group.

He teaches Ash, Noland’s adopted child, all his fighting skills, making him Ash’s main mentor.

He is also a researcher, collecting the abandoned records of Bartley Asprius and discovering the existence of Geass.

The Battle at Sapporo and Damocles

During Divock Merte’s operation to destroy the Sapporo Ghetto, Christoph uses the last Freya warhead on the Damocles, causing it to crash.

After Divock’s death, Christoph shifts his focus to the strange behavior of captured soldiers.

He tortures them to find out why some seem to have helped the enemy and can't remember why.

He recovers the gravely wounded Arnold Renk, turning him into a cyborg equipped with a Geass Canceller to uncover the truth about Rozé.

By tracking these clues, he secretly captures Sakuya Sumeragi, using a mask that blocks Geass, and discovers the hidden base of the Shining Seven.

Experiments with Geass

Christoph builds a huge secret laboratory to continue research on the Geass using documents from General Bartley.

He figures out Sakuya’s Geass power and forces her to experiment with captured Elevens fitted with deadly collars.

He threatens Sakuya with the lives of these captives to force her to use her Geass, hoping to artificially recreate its power.

But Stanley Vonbraun leaks his location, and Ash, escaping from Arnold, attacks the facility.

Christoph puts on his Elgripe Knightmare Frame and fights Ash.

He taunts Ash about being brainwashed by Sakuya’s Geass and about the death of Ash’s real brother, Nicol, using his knowledge of Ash’s fighting style as a former mentor to go toe-to-toe with him.

He tries to kill Ash using smoke to cover his attack, but Ash, despite being unstable, stays calm and targets the cockpit, forcing Christoph to escape at the last second.

Christoph's End

Ash leaves Sakuya behind, unable to forgive her for using Geass to pretend to be his brother.

Christoph is happy to take this chance to recapture Sakuya.

He mocks Sakuya, arguing that trust gained through Geass is only a curse and cannot be real.

He again threatens the lives of the Elevens to make her cooperate in his experiments.

But as the mechanical arm of Zi-Apollo smashes through the glass and restrains Christoph, his special mask gets knocked off.

Before Sakuya can use her Geass on him, Christoph chooses to shoot himself in the head rather than become a Geass slave, showing his final act of resistance.

The harsh words Christoph said to Sakuya apply to almost every Geass user across the Code Geass series, not just in this story.

Later, Sakuya and Ash turn Geass from a curse into a vow, using trust to defeat Noland’s ambitions.

Suzaku Kururugi also uses his Geass curse as a limiter remover, making a twisted use of the Geass’s power.

Shin Hyuga Shaing’s Geass only works on people he loves or trusts deeply; the more he trusts someone, the more lonely he becomes because his power destroys his own trust.

It’s not clear if Christoph knew Noland von Lüneberg’s true identity, but as a researcher, he may have known about the researcher most deeply tied to Noland.

Christoph’s fighting style is pure assassination—unlike Orpheus Zevon, who turns her family’s assassination sword into her own unique form, Christoph’s approach remains strictly that of an assassin.
