Character Setting

Edit

Torame is a brave male wolf spirit who once lived as a Japanese wolf cub. After his death, he was called back to the living world by Gaou and revived inside the guardian wolf statue of Howl Shrine. In his beast form, he looks like a proud black wolf with yellow fur, and in human form, he becomes a wild, scruffy boy dressed like a ninja, with a shiny jewel in his sideburns. Although energetic and playful, Torame has a deep grudge against humans for causing wolves to go extinct. He often treats fights with the Pretty Cure as fun and games, but his feelings slowly change as he starts playing and bonding with them. Eventually, after befriending the Pretty Cure and letting go of his hatred, Torame chooses to pass on peacefully, with his wolf statue returned to the shrine.

Torame has two main forms.

As a wolf, he has black fur mixed with yellow and a proud, fierce look. He wears a necklace with a magic jewel, just like Gaou and Zakuro.

As a human boy, his skin is pale, his eyes are yellow and sharp, and he has jagged teeth. His hair comes in two shades of gold and he wears ninja-like clothes with yellow accents. The magic jewel is tied into his side hair. He also wears fingerless gloves, special socks, thick-soled sandals, and a two-part yellow cord with yellow beads.

When he was alive, he was a pure, innocent wolf cub with golden-brown fur and golden eyes.

Torame is lively, mischievous, and eager for fun. He can be cheeky and rough when talking. Ever since his life ended at a young age, his anger towards humans was mostly influenced by adult wolves rather than personal experience. Mostly, his main regret is wanting to play more with his wolf friends.

At first, Torame finds excitement in chaos, seeing battles as a game and scaring people for fun. However, deep inside, all he really wants is to run and play with friends, as he did with his wolf pack.

Torame appears in "Wonderful Precure!" as a ghostly spirit of the extinct Japanese wolf. Gaou, angry that his monsters called Garugaru had disappeared from the human world, summoned Torame and Zakuro from the underworld, placing Torame’s soul in the wolf statue at Howl Shrine. Originally just a wolf, Gaou's magic let him take the form of a human boy.

While he obeys Gaou, Torame isn’t a mindless minion—he only helps with Gaou’s plan to see him revived. He uses the nickname “Oira” for himself and speaks in a bold, casual tone. After episode 29, he is introduced to Iroha Inukai (Cure Friendly), who tries to make him her friend, but he angrily rejects it, blaming humans for the wolves' extinction.

Instead of using darkness on other animals, Torame injects Garugaru eggs with more darkness to create stronger monsters, the GaoGaoon. However, after all the Niko Animals are saved, the eggs—and his reason to fight—disappear.

Torame specializes in creating and commanding monsters called GaoGaoon by using Garugaru eggs filled with darkness. He’s skilled in both wolf and human forms, is fast and clever in battle, and often turns any situation into a playful challenge.

He is not highly intelligent and was said to only be able to count to three, possibly because only three wolves survived in his story.

  • Gaou: The one who revived Torame and gives him orders, but Torame doesn’t fully see him as a boss and sometimes just plays along.
  • Zakuro: His constant rival, they bicker often over who should get the credit for their missions. They argue a lot and are not a good team, but still stick together.
  • Pretty Cure (Wonderful Precure!): At first, Torame treats them as toys or playmates for battle, but over time, they slowly become his friends. Especially Komugi Inukai (Cure Wonderful) and Iroha Inukai (Cure Friendly) help him realize he wants friends, not enemies.
  • Other Animals: Although mostly loyal to wolves, Torame shows a faint sense of unity with all animals, and even helps a human in distress when urged by a crane.

  • Torame's name probably comes from "tiger's eye," a gemstone.
  • His wild, sharp teeth resemble the open-mouthed guardian dog statues at shrines, called "Agyo".
  • The reason he can't count past three is likely a reference to there only being three wolves left in his group.
  • The design of his ninja-like clothes matches his playful, sneaky wolf spirit.
  • According to an interview in Animage 2025 February issue, Torame's real heart was not about hating humans but wanting to play with his wolf friends.
  • When Torame is finally purified, his wolf statue is returned to Howl Shrine, showing closure to his story.

  • "There's no way I can be friends with humans! And I don't even want to!!" (Episode 29)
  • "Roar, black beast wrapped in darkness!"
  • "Smash them!!"
  • "Don't underestimate me… You think you can stop us that easily?"
  • "Oh? Are you still going?"
  • "Is that all you've got left?"
  • "There you go again. I told you, there's no way we can be friends!"
  • "You guys never give up! But now I'm getting excited! Alright, I'll pass it on! See you!"
  • "Being walked on a leash… not fun at all. Fine! I guess I'll set you free myself!"
  • "Tch… I wanted to break more things."
  • "Try your best to entertain me, Pretty Cure."
  • "Aren't there fewer of you? Weren't there lots before?"
  • "No, the next after three is four! I learned that at school!"
  • "Tch… is this all for today? Well, I got to enjoy myself."
  • (He looked at Zakuro with an exasperated face when Zakuro said 'I want excitement!')
  • "A crowd of humans. If I send in GaoGaoon… could be fun."
  • "Hey! Let's play!"
  • "Well, that was kind of fun."
  • "Wow… you're really fast!"
  • "Okay, guys!! We're playing until I win ten times!! Promise!! See you again!!"
  • "Not hibernating yet? It's still warmer than before, I guess…"
  • "Play with them! GaoGaoon!!"
  • "Hahaha! What's with that pose!! Huh!?"
  • "If Gaou-sama comes back, this whole place will be our playground!"
  • "What are you doing? Hey! I came to play! Hey, listen up!"
  • "What's with all that smiling!! Ignoring me! I'm super mad!! Hmph!"
  • "I'm not going to be caught that easily!! Go! GaoGaoon!!"
  • "It was pretty fun, see you again!"
  • "Stop!!!"
  • "So boring."
  • "Aww, boring…"
  • "I'm making one now! If I find a black egg!"
  • "Well then… today I'll play with you all myself!!"
  • "Huh!? Hey! Why are you happy?!"
  • "W-wait! Don't just decide on your own!"
  • "I'm definitely going to catch you!!!"
  • "Me too… I always used to run in the mountains… It was so much fun, running with my friends! That's why I wanted to run and play like this! One more time… together with my friends—!!"
  • "…Maybe that's true!"
  • "'Let me hear your voice'… I played a lot, became friends with the humans I hated so much, so there's nothing left for me to regret…"
  • "──Friendly, please look after Gaou-sama for me…"

Torame's Revival and First Encounter

In episode 29, Torame makes his first appearance after being revived by Gaou, argued over by Zakuro and Gaou about who gave him the order. He finds a Garugaru egg and hatches a monkey-like GaoGaoon from it. When Komugi Inukai (Cure Wonderful) transforms, Torame questions her, “Why are you, a dog, on the human side?” Komugi explains she's with humans because “being together is wonderful!” Torame and Zakuro blame humans for the extinction of Japanese wolves and refuse friendship.

Torame shouts, “Smash them!” and attacks with his monsters. Despite a strong fight, the Pretty Cure can't win, and Torame calls them “weak and boring” before leaving with Zakuro when Gaou orders them back.

The Playful Foe

In episode 30, Torame reports about Pretty Cure to Gaou, then rushes out after winning a fight with Zakuro over summoning GaoGaoon. He enjoys watching the Pretty Cure struggle, taunting, “Aren't you done yet?” When Iroha Inukai (Cure Friendly) says she wants to learn about wolves to be friends, he retorts, “I told you, there's no way we can be friends!” Eventually, empowered Pretty Cure purify GaoGaoon, and Torame leaves but promises to pass on their message to Gaou.

Mischief Around Town

In episode 33, Torame frees dogs on leashes by summoning a pig GaoGaoon and grumbles when the fun ends too soon. Later, he meets only two Pretty Cure and says, “Isn’t this fewer? Wasn’t there a lot before?” When Komugi teaches him “the next after three is four,” he’s left a little embarassed.

In episode 36, Torame gives Zakuro a confused look when Zakuro wishes for excitement.

New Encounters and Games

In episode 37, Torame munches on triple ice cream and plans to cause trouble at a mall, summoning a giraffe GaoGaoon. After losing, he calls it “pretty fun” and leaves.

In episode 38, Torame chases a wild stoat, laughs at their speed, and summons a stoat GaoGaoon, which is cleverly caught by Pretty Cure after a clever plan. “I’ll win ten times next! Promise!!”

Softening Heart

In episode 40, Torame grumbles about being bored, chats with some frogs (showing he gets along with other animals), then summons a frog GaoGaoon for a new battle. When Pretty Cure outsmarts him, he laughs genuinely and thanks them for the fun.

The Turning Point

In episode 44, Torame discovers a giant black egg and summons the strongest GaoGaoon ever—a T-Rex monster. While chaos ensues, he stops the destruction when he helps a human save a dying pet, showing his hidden kindness.

In episode 45, with no more eggs to use, Torame challenges Pretty Cure to a direct game of tag in the mountains. The play makes him recall the joy of running with his wolf friends. He is finally able to smile with the Pretty Cure, admitting that being together was more fun than hating, and asks Iroha to look after Gaou. With his hatred gone, he asks the Pretty Cure for their purifying power and passes on peacefully. His wolf statue is returned to Howl Shrine.

Afterlife and Legacy

In episode 50, as a spirit, Torame appears to welcome others who pass on, howling proudly with his wolf friends. The Howl Shrine is rebuilt, and tales are told of wolves helping lost travelers, hinting Torame is happily running in the mountains with his friends.
