Kiriha is the main heroine of the series and the Tsugumono of a treasured obi passed down through Kazuya's family. The obi, known as "Ayazakura," is a pure silk claw-carved brocade fukuro obi.
She manifests as a beautiful girl with an archaic speech pattern and a subtle scent of cherry blossoms. Kiriha originally belonged to a fabric wholesaler and transformed into a Tsugumono during the time of its fifth owner, Nui Hanamiya.
When blending into human society, she adopts the alias Kiriha Obina. She eventually goes so far as to transfer into Kazuya's class.
In her object form, Kiriha is a white obi adorned with cherry blossom petals.
When assuming a human form, she takes the shape of a girl with long, light blue hair. She wears a kimono patterned identically to her obi body.
Her ears have a noticeably pointed shape, and a fang peeks out from the corner of her mouth. She usually looks to be in her mid-to-late teens.
However, after exhausting too much power, she reverts to the form of a little girl. Her current appearance is itself a result of a prolonged lack of spiritual energy; during her time partnered with Kanaka, she maintained the adult figure of a woman in her twenties.
Kiriha is domineering and invariably selfish. She shows no hesitation whatsoever, even putting the local god Kukuri in joint locks.
She flies into a rage when Kukuri or Kokuyō call her "dust cloth woman." The official website for the first anime season describes her as a "Sadist."
She loves sweets and has a particular obsession with pudding.
Initially, she treats Kazuya like a servant and is a serial sexual harasser. Yet she makes no effort to hide her affection for him.
She casually appears naked in front of him—though she does possess a normal sense of modesty—has him wash her back in the bath, and insists on sleeping together with him every day under the pretext of "strengthening her power," often with a habit of sleeping in the nude.
Obi Manipulation
Kiriha's core ability is "Obi Manipulation," which allows her to control and combine copies of her original body like origami or string. This grants her highly adaptable powers far beyond those of other Tsugumono.
She can stretch her obi like tentacles, but more impressively, she can weave it three-dimensionally to create weapons and defensive barriers, enabling a fluid and unpredictable fighting style.
Notable Techniques
Spiral Binding — Twists the obi into a spiral to form a drill. Its advanced applications include the eight-bladed reinforced version "Eight-Layered Blade" and "Double Cherry Blossom," which weaves the obi into a bud shape before striking like a pile bunker.
Shield Binding — Weaves the obi into a shield or wall for defense. It can be multi-layered for increased strength, and has variations like "Water Splitter" to deflect attacks and "Soundless," which adds a soundproofing function.
Hammer Binding — Forms the obi into a giant mallet for a crushing blow.
Power Obi — Wraps the obi around the body to enhance physical capabilities. If not precisely synchronized with the user's muscles, it carries a risk of injury, but offers a major boost in power and speed.
Kami-gakari — A state where a deeply bonded user and Tsugumono unite into one, achieving a massive power-up. The backlash is severe; until spiritual energy recovers, the user is left incapacitated and the Tsugumono loses all abilities.
Kazuya Kagami — Her current partner. She bosses him around relentlessly yet treasures him deeply. His naturally dense remarks often leave her blushing.
Kasumi Kagami — Kazuya's elder sister. She is a reliable person but a severe bro-con. She and Kiriha fight like cats and dogs.
Kanaka Kagami — Kazuya's mother and Kiriha's former partner. During that era, Kiriha had an adult figure, and the two were renowned as the strongest "Suso Harai." The truth behind Kanaka's death holds a grave secret.
Kukuri — A local god she has known for a long time. A bona fide deity, but Kiriha has tormented her since her partnership with Kanaka. Even now that she is in a child-like form, any mischief is punished with professional wrestling moves.
Kirio — A male version of Kiriha that appeared when infiltrating a teacher's dream. In this form, he constantly sexually harasses Kazumi (the female version of Kazuya) and is repeatedly punished by Kasumi and Chikao (the male version of Chisato).
During a critical battle, when a resurrected Kanaka, now a "Tsugumono-tsuki," was about to deliver the final blow to Kazuya, Kiriha used her entire body as a shield to protect him. She was sliced to pieces, sustaining fatal injuries that caused her to lose all spiritual power. She reverted to her original obi form and even lost her life as a Tsugumono.
However, because Kazuya kept the remnants of her original body close at all times, a faint trace of spiritual energy was preserved. The obi was later restored by Itonobu, and during a pivotal match, Kiriha achieved a stunning revival.
Kiriha was implemented as a collaboration character in the game "Monmusu ☆ Harem." She is also the only Tsugumomo character to have been made into a figure.
