Deusolbert Synthesis Seven

Deusolbert Synthesis Seven is the seventh Integrity Knight serving the Axiom Church in the Underworld.

He is voiced by Mitsuaki Hoshino in the anime adaptation.

He is known as a stern, unbending warrior clad in deep crimson armor.

Although famous as an archer, he is also an elite swordsman who excels in close-quarters combat.

Deusolbert once guarded the northern frontier of the Norlangarth Empire.

After a certain incident involving Alice Zuberg, he was reassigned to protect the Central Cathedral in the Human Empire capital.

He is over one hundred years old due to the effects of the Underworld’s fluctlight-based life and the system’s control over Integrity Knights.

Despite his power and status, he is quietly tormented by fragments of memories from his former life as a human.

Deusolbert is extremely serious, dutiful, and rigid in his thinking.

He embodies the ideal “lawful” knight, placing obedience to orders and the Axiom Church’s rules above his personal feelings.

He appears cold and intimidating, but he is not heartless.

His lingering dreams of a wife from his human days show a capacity for deep affection that the Church tried to erase.

This inner conflict makes him one of the first Integrity Knights to accept the truth that they were originally human.

Once confronted with that reality, he is capable of self-reflection and remorse, especially regarding Alice and Eugeo.

Abduction of Alice Zuberg

As a lower-ranked Integrity Knight in the past, Deusolbert was responsible for arresting a young Alice Zuberg.

She had violated the Taboo Index by stepping into the Dark Territory at the End Mountains near Rulid Village.

On the strength of this “achievement,” Deusolbert was promoted to a higher-ranking Integrity Knight and reassigned from the northern border to the Central Cathedral.

However, to maintain the secrecy of the Integrity Knights’ true nature, Quinella erased his memories of the incident, along with his awareness of why he was promoted.

Because of the abduction, Eugeo grows up harboring an intense hatred for the red-armored knight who took Alice away.

Deusolbert, ironically, has no conscious recollection of Eugeo, Alice, or his own role in their tragedy.

Memory Manipulation and Human Past

Like other Integrity Knights, Deusolbert was originally a human whose memories were rewritten by Quinella’s “Synthesis” ritual.

His memories of his wife and life before becoming a knight were stripped away to ensure his absolute loyalty.

Despite this, faint echoes of his human past remain.

He sometimes dreams of spending time with his wife, and these dreams move him to tears, even though he does not fully understand why.

When Kirito (Kazuto Kirigaya) and Eugeo finally confront him in the Central Cathedral, their words and actions shake his faith.

He becomes one of the earliest knights to truly grasp that the Integrity Knights were once ordinary humans whose memories were stolen.

Battle in the Central Cathedral

Deusolbert is the first major Integrity Knight opponent Kirito and Eugeo face after infiltrating the Central Cathedral.

He confronts them with full confidence in his authority, his skill, and the might of his divine weapon.

In battle, he uses his Crimson Flame Bow to rain down devastating fire-imbued arrows.

However, the bow relies on physical arrows, and once his supply runs low, its overwhelming power diminishes.

Eugeo unleashes a secret sword art combination that ultimately defeats Deusolbert.

After his loss, the truth about Integrity Knights being former humans is revealed to him, along with the fact that he himself abducted Alice eight years earlier from Rulid Village.

This revelation deeply shakes him, forcing him to confront both his past sins and Quinella’s manipulation.

The moment becomes a turning point in his understanding of his own identity and the Church he serves.

Combat Skills

Deusolbert is both a master archer and a top-tier swordsman.

Even before drawing his bow, he can hold his own in intense close-quarters duels against highly skilled opponents like Kirito and Eugeo.

His unwavering discipline and long battlefield experience make him a formidable tactician.

He fights with a knight’s composure, rarely acting on impulse, and fully trusts in his training and the System.

Divine Object: Crimson Flame Bow

Deusolbert’s divine weapon is the “Crimson Flame Bow,” also known as the Blazing Flame Bow.

It is believed to be formed from an object resembling a phoenix, fitting its association with fire and rebirth.

The bow can grant the arrows he looses a sheath of intense flame.

These fiery shots can incinerate enemies, pierce defenses, and impose heavy pressure over long distances.

However, the weapon has an important limitation: it relies on manufactured arrows as ammunition.

Once his stock of arrows is depleted, the bow loses much of its impact, significantly weakening his threat level.

Despite this drawback, when fully supplied, the Crimson Flame Bow makes Deusolbert one of the most dangerous long-range Integrity Knights.

Combined with his swordsmanship, he is dangerous at every range.

After the conflict in the Central Cathedral ends and Quinella falls, Deusolbert fights under the command of Bercouli Synthesis One.

Together with the other Integrity Knights, he prepares for the looming “otherworldly” invasion from the Dark Territory.

During the War of the Underworld, he suffers fatigue, injuries, and the toll of prolonged combat.

Even so, he continues to fight on the front lines, demonstrating the same stubborn endurance that defines his personality.

At one point in the war, Deusolbert manages to defeat Shibori, one of the Ten Lords of the Dark Territory.

This victory is a significant contribution to the Human Empire’s defense, cementing his role as a key veteran knight.

Following the war, Deusolbert becomes an important figure in the Human Empire Unity Council.

He shifts from being primarily a warrior to also acting as a political and organizational pillar in the rebuilding era.

He is frequently tasked with keeping an eye on Kirito, who has become his superior but often neglects paperwork and administrative duties.

This effectively turns Deusolbert into the grumbling, overworked subordinate who has to manage his free-spirited boss.

He also serves as an instructor for lower-ranked knights and trainees.

In the Cradle arc, knight trainees Ronye Arabel and Tiese Schtrinen are counted among his students, benefiting from his long experience and strict discipline.

In other stories set in the same continuity, Deusolbert is similarly assigned to look after younger fighters and prodigies.

In Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, for instance, he ends up acting as a mentor and guardian to the twin prodigies Linel and Fizel, further cementing his “reluctant babysitter” reputation.

In later developments, Deusolbert receives a petrification and freezing-type sealing ritual, similar to Fanatio Synthesis Two and Renly Synthesis Twenty-Seven.

He is placed in stasis on the ninety-ninth floor of the Central Cathedral.

This suspended state preserves him and other key knights as a last-resort defense and a potential resource for future crises.

It also symbolizes how even the greatest warriors of the old age are being carefully stored away in a changing Underworld.
