Metako is the navigator cat owned by Momo Chiyoda in The Demon Girl Next Door. Once able to speak like a human, Metako now can only say the phrase “The time has come” because of a magic card. Once the guide for Sakura Chiyoda, Metako is now mostly a normal old cat and barely talks, serving as a quirky presence in Momo’s life and sometimes appearing in dreams or funny scenes.
Metako is a cat and now looks almost like an ordinary elderly cat.
When appearing in dreams as a guardian, Metako’s form changes into a muscular cat-human with Metako’s head.
In the anime opening and ending, Metako can be seen dancing and moving smoothly.
Metako used to be wise and able to give guidance.
Because of old age and Momo’s lack of motivation as a magical girl, Metako has turned into a lazy, sleepy, and mostly regular cat.
Metako can still act as a guardian if necessary and sometimes gives prophecies when in a good mood.
Metako’s real name is Metatron.
Before working for Momo Chiyoda, Metako was the navigator cat for Sakura Chiyoda.
Due to the power of a demon-hunting card, Metako lost the ability to speak normally and can only say “The time has come.”
Now, with old age and Momo losing her magical girl spirit, Metako is almost always a normal cat.
Metako used to talk just like a person.
Sometimes Metako can still give prophecies, especially when in a good mood.
As a guardian in dreams, Metako can take on a strong, muscular form and speak human language clearly.
“The time has come.”
Metako’s Curse
Long ago, Metako was able to talk to people and guide magical girls with wisdom.
After being affected by the power of a demon-hunting card, Metako’s words were limited, and now can only say, “The time has come.”
Dream Guardian Metako
In volume 2, chapter 23 of the original story, Metako appears as a guardian in Momo’s dream.
Shamiko (Yuko Yoshida) enters Momo’s dream and is greeted by a powerful-looking, muscular version of Metako who tries to figure out who Shamiko is.
Metako asks strange but deep questions, but Shamiko is too distracted by the strange appearance to really pay attention.
This version of Metako speaks human words loudly and clearly.
Anime Scenes
In the anime, Metako appears both in the opening and ending sequences.
In these scenes, Metako is shown dancing smoothly, adding some fun to the show.
Metako’s voice in the anime is performed by two different actors, with a deep, serious voice used only when speaking human language.
Metako is mostly just a cat now, but can still surprise others with deep prophecies or sudden changes.
Whenever Metako is in a really good mood, instead of saying helpful things, only repeats “The time has come.”
