Alexander Pushkin is a chubby and sly member of the group “The Rats in the House of the Dead.” He loves to see strong people suffer and laughs in a strange way. He only cares about his own fun and quickly betrays his allies when caught. Pushkin’s biggest impact on the story is using his deadly virus ability to set off a dramatic conflict between the detective agency and the mafia.
Pushkin is a short, chubby man. He always looks sneaky and often has a smirk on his face.
Pushkin has a twisted way of thinking. He calls himself a “weak person” and believes weak people can do anything to get even with the strong. He loves to see powerful people in pain and thinks of it as the best kind of fun. Pushkin is very selfish and betrays his group right away if he thinks it will help him. He can be mean, cowardly, and cruel. He tricks others and often uses people as bait.
Pushkin is from Russia and is a member of the group “The Rats in the House of the Dead.” He does not respect or admire Fyodor Dostoevsky, his leader, and sees both Dostoevsky and his group as nothing more than tools for his own fun. He was caught easily and quickly gave away everything he knew about his group, showing he has no loyalty at all.
The Banquet in the Time of the Plague
Pushkin has the power to control a deadly virus. He can infect two people at the same time. The virus kills after 48 hours. If either host dies for any reason other than the virus, the ability is canceled. The virus causes high fever and dizziness and makes it almost impossible to stand. Osamu Dazai cannot use his own ability to stop the virus because it hides in important organs. Only Pushkin can remove the virus or one host must die. Fyodor Dostoevsky called this ability “Cannibalism.”
- “Dostoevsky and the Rats in the House of the Dead are just tools for entertainment!”
The Virus Trap
Pushkin tricks Atsushi Nakajima and hurts Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, infecting both with his deadly virus. He tries to escape and puts everyone on edge by creating a deadly challenge for the two heroes.
Escape and Betrayal
He almost gets away with Ivan Goncharov’s help and manages to lose Atsushi and Akutagawa. But when he tries to make his escape, he is captured by the main members of the Detective Agency and the Mafia, who are waiting at the exit.
Quick Surrender
Pushkin gives up easily, betraying his group and sharing all the secrets he knows without hesitation. He says he only joined for fun, not because he cared about Dostoevsky or the others.
Fitting End
He tries to beg for his life. However, Yukichi Fukuzawa and Ōgai Mori knock him out together. He ends up caught and likely faces harsh treatment for everything he caused. Even though he started a huge conflict, Pushkin’s story ends quickly and he is seen as a coward and a “bad guy” rather than a powerful enemy.
