Mayu

A woman with a bob haircut who wears traditional Japanese clothing and possesses the sacred treasure "Shin" of Tenjin. She was previously named "Bane" and served as a regalia for Yato, but because there was no shrine or salary, and her side-job rewards were mostly used up by him, she felt it was "physically impossible" for her to continue and resigned after three months. When she was a regalia for Yato, she took the form of a small knife, while as Tenjin's regalia, she appears as a smoking pipe. Although she assists with Yato's ablutions, she does not dislike him, and evaluates him as "not a bad person, but hopeless." In the Noragami: Stray Stories collection, her time with Yato is described as her "dark history."

In her life, she lived in Japan during World War II. She had a husband who was drafted and a daughter named Kiyoko. During the Tokyo air raids, as she lost all means of escape, she dropped Kiyoko into a river to save her before being consumed by the flames herself. This traumatic past causes her to still have a deep fear of large fires.
