Ellen is a female magic-user adventurer from the Sorcerous Dynasty of Sarion.

She travels as part of a three-person party under the direct supervision of Fuze, the guild master of the Kingdom of Blumund.

Although she acts like a free-spirited adventurer, Ellen is secretly the daughter of Elalude Grimwald, one of Sarion’s top officials.

She balances the expectations of her noble birth with her personal longing for freedom and genuine companionship.

Ellen was born in the Sorcerous Dynasty of Sarion, a powerful, magically advanced nation.

Coming from a high-status family, she is actually an aristocratic young lady rather than a commoner adventurer.

Her father is Elalude Grimwald, a key leader within Sarion’s government.

Despite this, Ellen rejects a life of rigid courtly duty and instead runs away to live as an adventurer.

To protect her identity and avoid political complications, Ellen travels incognito.

Her status is known only to a small circle of people, including her bodyguards and her superior Fuze.

Ellen belongs to the long-eared race, commonly known as elves.

However, she deliberately hides her elven heritage while operating as an adventurer.

She uses special medicine to alter her appearance and pass as a human.

This disguise allows her to move freely in human nations without drawing attention as a Sarion noble or as an elf.

Ellen is upbeat, friendly, and forward-looking, often acting as the emotional core of her party.

Because of this tendency, Fuze jokingly refers to her party as the “three idiots.”

By the end of their early stories, Kabal and Gido choose to support Ellen’s personal wishes over their original, rigid positions.

First Encounter with Rimuru Tempest

In the events covered in the first novel volume, Fuze sends Ellen’s party to investigate a sealed cave.

Inside this cave, they are unknowingly observed by Rimuru Tempest, who is still exploring his powers and the area.

Later, while re-examining the region around the cave in the Great Forest of Jura, Ellen’s party continues their investigation.

During this time, they meet Shizue Izawa, who requests to accompany them as they travel through the forest.

While adventuring alongside Shizue Izawa, the group is attacked by monsters in the Great Forest of Jura.

They are saved in the nick of time by Rimuru’s monster allies, which finally leads to their direct meeting with Rimuru.

Ellen and her friends are the first people from established human society that Rimuru encounters.

Through this encounter, Ellen becomes one of the earliest human intermediaries between Rimuru’s monster nation and human nations.

Bridge Between Humans and Monsters

Ellen’s warmth and open-mindedness allow her to interact with Rimuru’s monster companions without prejudice.

In the events depicted in the fifth novel volume, a tragedy strikes Rimuru’s nation, and Shion and others are killed.

Resurrecting the dead seems impossible, existing only in children’s tales and myths.

At this critical moment, Ellen recalls an old fairy-tale-like story about the dead being revived.

Despite knowing the risks of sharing such information, she decides to tell Rimuru.

She understands that pursuing this path could pose serious danger both to herself and to human society at large.

Even so, she accepts the risk and tells Rimuru about a way that might resurrect the dead.

By doing this, Ellen directly encourages Rimuru to evolve into a demon lord–class being known as a demon lord seed.

Her choice has enormous consequences, triggering Rimuru’s transformation and changing the power balance of the world.

With Kabal and Gido

Kabal and Gido start as Ellen’s official bodyguards from the Sarion Magus Corps.

Their mission is to protect her as she travels outside Sarion.

Over time, their dynamic softens into a genuine friendship among equals.

They tease each other, argue, and celebrate together like a normal party of adventurers.

When Ellen faces crucial decisions, Kabal and Gido ultimately support her personal wishes rather than strictly following their original chain of command.

This marks a shift from formal protector–ward roles to true comrades who choose each other.

With Fuze

Fuze is Ellen’s direct superior as an adventurer in Blumund.

He knows more about her background than most and keeps a close eye on her activities.

Although he often complains about the trouble she and her party cause, Fuze trusts her and relies on her group for important missions.

With Rimuru Tempest

Ellen is one of the earliest humans who interact with Rimuru on friendly terms.
