Kurgan belongs to the multi-arm tribe and is uniquely born with eight arms, which earns him the epithet “Eight-Armed Kurgan.”

He is celebrated in the Vollachian Empire as a national hero and a legendary front-line warrior.

In life, he served as the war god defending the fortress city Garkla, a key stronghold of the Vollachian Empire.

During an attack on the city by Regulus Corneas, Kurgan confronted him in battle and was ultimately defeated.

Despite that defeat, Kurgan held off Regulus Corneas for over an hour, buying enough time for Prince Vincent to escape the city.

Because of this act, he is spoken of as a heroic figure whose death in that battle occurred roughly a decade earlier in the Empire’s urban defense war.

In the main story, he returns as a Witch Cultist under Capella Emerada Lugunica, still wielding overwhelming fighting power even after death.

His imposing figure as a giant multi-armed man, combined with his warrior’s pride, makes him stand out even among the Witch Cult.

His voice actor is Takaya Kuroda, whose deep and powerful voice suits Kurgan’s intimidating yet noble presence.

Kurgan’s personality shows a stern warrior code; he acknowledges strength in others and rewards worthy opponents with his full power.

Kurgan possesses tremendous physical strength, stated to surpass even Garfiel Tinsel when Garfiel is in his beast-transformed state at the time.

His raw power, combined with eight arms and a towering physique, allows him to overwhelm most enemies in close combat.

Among the multi-arm tribe, his eight arms are considered exceptional and abnormal even by their standards.

He uses all eight arms in coordinated attacks, creating an inescapable storm of blows that crushes opponents through sheer pressure.

Kurgan’s basic fighting style is unarmed combat, where he relies on grappling, strikes, and brute force.

However, his true profession is that of a swordsman, and he carries multiple large swords known as “Ogre Cleavers” at his waist.

These Ogre Cleavers are massive greatswords, and he chooses to draw them only against opponents he personally acknowledges.

He enjoys scaling his seriousness by increasing the number of swords he uses according to the opponent’s skill level.

When using swordplay, his style gradually shifts from mainly unarmed techniques to sword-centric combat, blending his reach, power, and multiple arms into lethal weapon mastery.

His fully armed state is when he has all eight Ogre Cleavers drawn, one for each arm.

This fully armed form is considered Kurgan’s true full power, the pinnacle of his combat potential.

Warriors who manage to force Kurgan into drawing all eight swords are said to have achieved a feat worthy of legend, even if they ultimately lose.

Because of this, making Kurgan fight seriously is itself a mark of honor in the setting.

He implicitly judges and “knights” his opponents by how many arms and swords he commits to the battle.

Kurgan appears in Re:Zero, during the Watergate City Priestella arc (the fifth major storyline).

At this point, he is acting as a subordinate of Capella Emerada Lugunica within the Witch Cult.

In Priestella, Kurgan confronts Garfiel Tinsel and Mimi Pearlbaton in the plaza in front of the city hall.

The battle showcases the gap in power, as his strength and technique allow him to completely dominate the two.

Despite Garfiel’s ferocity and Mimi’s agility and support, Kurgan overwhelms them with his eight-armed might.

The clash ends with Garfiel and Mimi being forced to retreat, unable to defeat him in a direct head-on fight.

This encounter underlines just how terrifying a “hero” of Vollachia can be when turned into an enemy.

It also retroactively reinforces his legendary status: if even the current powerful characters are overmatched, his past defense of Garkla against Regulus Corneas becomes all the more impressive.

Kurgan’s story links the Vollachian Empire’s military history, the royal figure Vincent, and the Witch Cult’s current schemes.

Through him, the narrative connects past and present, showing how the heroes of one era can be twisted into deadly threats in another.
