Aoi Hayanose is a girl with short hair who is known as one of the Sages. Even though she has the power of a Sage, she refuses her role and instead takes on the job of eliminating "Rogue Sages." Aoi has a special power called the "Hero Killer's Eye," which lets her see people's destinies and even end the lives of both ordinary people and heroes by manipulating their fate. When she confronts Yogiri Takatou, she becomes terrified after seeing his fate and is left traumatized, choosing to hide from the world in a strong barrier. While she is skilled and ruthless in her duties, she also faces emotional struggles that leave a strong impact on her actions and relationships.
Aoi is a girl with short, cropped hair and often dresses in a very bold way. She wears a top that leaves her stomach uncovered and has short pants held up by suspenders, making her outfit quite revealing and unique.
Aoi is confident and often refers to herself using "boku," a word usually used by boys in Japanese. She is straightforward and dedicated when it comes to carrying out her missions. However, deep down, she finds it difficult to deal with emotionally charged situations, especially after her traumatic encounter with Yogiri Takatou, which leaves her deeply frightened and unable to continue her duties.
Aoi is a Sage who, despite her great powers, avoids fulfilling her role as a traditional Sage. Instead, she is given the task of hunting down Rogue Sages—those who refuse to become normal Sages. Part of her mission is to try to talk these Rogues into rejoining as allies, but she has never succeeded in this task during the story.
Magical Sword "Knife"
Aoi carries a short sword that can talk. While its attack power is the weakest among the Sages’ weapons, it is perfectly suited for eliminating Rogue Sages.
The sword can also use magic to communicate and deliver assignments for assassinations or recruitment to Aoi.
Hero Killer's Eye
This magic eye lets Aoi see others’ destiny values and, if their fate is weak, she can totally nullify their powers and kill them. For those with strong destinies, like heroes, she can see how and when they will die and recreate those situations to bring about their end.
Just World
This powerful ability can seal away any abilities or special powers that a person received from others or from gods. However, it cannot block the abilities of people or objects that have high destiny value or skills earned through personal effort.
Dimensional Barrier
After her traumatic encounter with Yogiri Takatou, Aoi hides herself inside a strong dimensional barrier. Kenja Sion has to spend quite some time to find her because of this.
- Kenja Sion: Aoi receives direct orders from Sion and plays a significant part in Sion’s plans to deal with Rogue Sages and investigate Yogiri Takatou.
- Daimon Hanakawa: Aoi captures Hanakawa and drags him along while searching for her targets.
- Yogiri Takatou: The sight of his fate traumatically breaks Aoi’s spirit and makes her flee and abandon her duties.
Tasked to Eliminate Rogue Sages
Aoi is given the job of hunting down Rogue Sages by Kenja Sion. She specializes in eliminating those who do not wish to serve as Sages. During her missions, she tries to persuade them to change their minds, but always ends up eliminating them instead.
Chasing After Yogiri Takatou and Tomochika Dannoura
Aoi gets involved in the chase to find and eliminate Yogiri Takatou and Tomochika Dannoura, who are labeled as Rogue Sages. During her search, she defeats another Rogue Sage, Saitou Rict, and uses Daimon Hanakawa as a hostage for information.
The Battle at the Tower of Trials
Things reach a crisis during a fight with the golden dragon Attila. After another enemy appears, the dragon flees to the Tower of Trials. Aoi pursues him, leading to a direct meeting with Yogiri Takatou.
Facing the Hero Killer's Eye Trauma
When she uses her power to view Yogiri Takatou's fate, Aoi is so terrified by what she sees that she vomits and runs away, leaving Hanakawa behind and begging for her life.
Hiding Behind the Dimensional Barrier
After this trauma, Aoi becomes reclusive, hides inside a powerful barrier, and is unable to carry out her work anymore. Even when Kenja Sion comes to see her, she cannot handle her own panic and anger, especially after Sion fails to understand the danger they are in.
Tragic Consequences
Later, Sion comes face-to-face with Yogiri Takatou and loses badly, only then understanding what broke Aoi. Sion is later weakened and killed by Mana, the sister of a demon god.
