Jōgorō Kobato

A male student at Funato High School, originally from Takahane Junior High. He possesses high deductive skills and a nature that compels him to solve everyday mysteries that occur around him. Until junior high, he willingly involved himself in problematic situations as a "detective," enjoying the attention he received from solving them. However, this often led to resentment and aversion from others, and experiences such as receiving notes telling him to "go it alone" have traumatized him. In high school, he tries to distance himself from deduction and live as an "ordinary citizen." Yet, he often finds himself unable to resist solving mysteries when he encounters them unintentionally. He likens his inquisitive nature to a "fox."

Originally a gentle and somewhat cynical man, he tries to blend into his class at school by acting like an ordinary citizen and maintaining a ceremonially indifferent attitude. On the other hand, he has a bad habit of not remembering people's names. While not as fond of sweets as Yuki Osanai, he particularly enjoyed the Charlotte from the Western confectionery "Jeff Beck" he tried in the summer of his second year of high school.

When he finds a decisive clue in his deductions, he often declares, "In my opinion, this should settle it." One of his methods of deduction involves maintaining tension while allowing his concentration to relax and directing his thoughts outside the problem to find the answer.
