Divock Merte is a high-ranking officer in the Britannian military in Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture. Known for his ruthless ambition, he tried to destroy the Sapporo Ghetto using the damocles and FLEIJA weapon to gain recognition, but his plans fail spectacularly. He underestimates his enemies, overestimates his own ability, and ends up being the only victim of the FLEIJA he intended to use against others. Divock is remembered more for his arrogance and poor strategy than any lasting achievements.
Divock Merte is a very large and muscular man with a rugged look.
His hair is slicked back and green, making him stand out.
He often wears a strict expression, looking both fierce and confident.
Divock is extremely ambitious and always wants to be recognized for his accomplishments.
He does not care about innocent people and will do anything to reach his goals, even if it means hurting civilians.
He looks down on anyone who is not Britannian, calling them dirty names and never hiding his hatred.
Divock becomes angry and violent when things do not go his way, often acting without thinking.
Deep down, he is not as skilled or strong as he believes.
Divock Merte holds the title of "White Rook" (Weiss Rook) in the Einberg group.
He is respected by some like Catherine Savasula, who calls him "D," but most see his vicious side.
Divock pilots the special KMF called El Calmar.
This machine is powerful with a huge cannon on its back and many missile pods.
It also has special needle weapons on its arms that can produce a protective shield.
Still, Divock's skills in battle are not as good as top pilots like Catherine Savasula, Christoph Scissorman, or Nara Vaughn.
When facing Haruka Rutaka and her KMF Keisetsu, Divock is easily defeated.
Divock shows respect to Nara Vaughn, the "Schwarz Queen", calling her "Lady Nara."
However, when Nara abandons him after a failed mission, he angrily insults her, showing he does not truly respect anyone above him.
He is a tool for Noland von Lüneberg, who uses Divock’s plan as a distraction for his own greater goal.
"I will not allow the Elevens to escape!"
"Launch Damocles!!"
Planning the Destruction of the Sapporo Ghetto
Divock wants to wipe out the resistance in Sapporo to earn glory for himself.
He borrows the Damocles and its FLEIJA warhead from Noland von Lüneberg and openly declares that he will destroy the Sapporo Ghetto with it.
Divock allows some resistance fighters to escape on purpose, planning to wipe them all out in one big attack with FLEIJA.
Dangerous Overconfidence and Tactical Errors
He believes that his machine’s shields and weapons make him unbeatable.
This lets Rozé and other resistance fighters sneak into Damocles using a special bullet, and they plant bombs inside.
Divock goes out in El Calmar to stop them and is badly beaten by Haruka Rutaka.
He thinks he stopped the bombs but ignores the chance that other bombs are hidden; in the end, Damocles’ float system is blown up.
The Failed FLEIJA Plan
Even after this, Divock tries to use FLEIJA, but Ash destroys it with a FLEIJA Eliminator device.
After another attack from Sanshirou Toumi, the Damocles is badly damaged, and Divock loses the last chance to use FLEIJA.
Losing Allies and Desperate Measures
Nara Vaughn, leading the ground team, tells Divock the mission failed and abandons him.
Fearing Noland’s anger over his failures, Divock gets back into his half-destroyed KMF and grabs the unstable FLEIJA.
He tries to sacrifice both himself and the resistance with a final attack.
Tragic End
Rozé and his team catch up and use the FLEIJA Eliminator again, canceling out Divock’s FLEIJA.
Caught in the blast, Divock is compressed and killed at the atomic level.
Ironically, the only victim of his FLEIJA plan is himself.
Nothing but a Pawn
To make matters worse, Noland von Lüneberg never cared about FLEIJA or Damocles—his real plan was only using Divock’s attack to distract everyone.
Divock was just a throwaway pawn in a much bigger game.
Divock’s plan was so badly handled that he ended up being the only one destroyed by the weapon he tried to use.
He was never meant to succeed; he was just used as a tool by those above him.
