Ryō Yoake

Ryō Yoake is a key staff member at the ReLIFE Laboratory Kanto Branch, playing a major role in supervising the ReLIFE experiment at Aoba High School. Presenting himself as a high school student, he brings energy and a bright smile to his undercover mission, working mainly as the observer and supporter for Arata Kaizaki and Chizuru Hishiro. Known for his cheerful nature and vivid orange image color, Ryō usually avoids the spotlight and blends in among classmates, but is also famous for his sharp wit and surprising remarks, making him both a mysterious and memorable character. While excellent at his job, he struggles with waking up and keeping his cover.

Ryō Yoake has lively, bright brown hair that flows smoothly, and his bangs are a little longer than Arata Kaizaki’s.

Personality

Ryō is always smiling and uses polite, gentle language, making people around him feel relaxed.

He is extremely responsible and dedicated to his job, always keeping detailed records and sending reports to the ReLIFE headquarters.

Sometimes, Ryō will say things that sound scary or strict, which often frightens Arata—this leads Arata to call him a "crazy sadist" as a joke.

Even though he acts as a classmate, Ryō tries not to stand out and avoids getting too close to the people he is observing, especially Arata, to keep his mission secret.

He works hard to blend in like an average high schooler and started at Aoba High School from the first year as part of his training.

Background

Ryō works for the ReLIFE Laboratory at the Kanto Branch.

His main mission is to watch over and support Arata Kaizaki, who is the second test subject in the story.

Ryō writes detailed reports about both Arata’s and Chizuru Hishiro’s actions, which are very important for the experiment.

Early on, he was chosen to be the main support for Chizuru, the first Kanto Branch participant, but he got exhausted because of the confusing demands from higher-ups and fainted from overwork after the first year.

Because both Ryō and Chizuru wanted to continue, the experiment was extended for another year, but after that, Ryō was replaced as Chizuru’s supporter and focused only on helping Arata.

Abilities

Ryō is excellent at his job and can gather information about the test subjects and the people around them.

He is organized and hardly ever makes mistakes, always knowing what’s happening with the test subjects.

However, he has one weakness: he has trouble waking up and is not great right after getting up.

Relationships

Ryō has a special working relationship with Arata Kaizaki, acting as his main observer.

He also supported Chizuru Hishiro for more than a year before handing her over to An Onoya.

Ryō tries to keep his identity secret, only talking openly about his role to the people who are part of the experiment.

Arata calls him "crazy sadist," but they still trust each other.

Plot

ReLIFE Laboratory Assignment

Ryō works at the ReLIFE Laboratory Kanto Branch and is in charge of observing Arata Kaizaki as the main test subject (No.002).

He attends Aoba High School with Arata and Chizuru, pretending to be a classmate but actually spending most time watching them and recording their actions.

He blends in to help with the experiment and is careful not to get too close to Arata, to keep his observations fair and secret.

Overwork and Change

Ryō was first supposed to support Chizuru, the Kanto Branch’s first test subject.

Because of unclear directions from the Laboratory’s bosses, Ryō worked too hard and collapsed from fatigue in his first year.

When Ryō and Chizuru agreed to continue, the experiment got a one-year extension, but his failure to pace himself meant he would not continue supporting Chizuru in the second year.

An Onoya took over supporting Chizuru, so Ryō focused only on Arata.

Staying Undercover

Ryō tells Arata he stayed for all three years of high school because it was part of his training as an observer.

Even after An Onoya replaced him as Chizuru’s supporter, Ryō kept his cover and stayed at school, explaining to Chizuru that it would be hard to suddenly disappear without raising suspicions.

Observation and Safeguards

Before becoming a main supporter, Ryō looked into Arata’s past to check his personality and make sure he would not misuse the experiment after realizing all memories connected to him would be erased.
