An Onoya

An Onoya is a major character in "ReLIFE." She appears as a cheerful and friendly high school girl who actually works for the ReLIFE Laboratory in the Kanto branch. An is the mastermind behind choosing Arata Kaizaki as subject No.002 for the experiment. Even though she looks young, her real age is around 27, and she joins Aoba High School at the same time as Arata. She often acts in mischievous ways to interact with the experiment subjects, but also reveals a caring and supportive side, especially towards fellow agent Ryō Yoake and participant Chizuru Hishiro. Outside of school, An is talented in cooking and fashion, and she always brings homemade lunches. In the live-action movie, her character is only shown as a student, not a staff member of the ReLIFE Laboratory.

She is mainly responsible for supporting Chizuru Hishiro but eventually becomes Arata Kaizaki’s handler.

She transfers to Aoba High School at the same time as Arata Kaizaki, pretending to be an ordinary student for the sake of the experiment.

Her duties include watching over the subjects and reporting their progress.

In the movie version, An is shown only as an ordinary student and not as a ReLIFE staff member.

The Secret Agent

At first, An hides her true job as a ReLIFE agent from both Arata Kaizaki and Chizuru Hishiro.

She acts like a regular cheerful girl and blends in as a transfer student in class 3-3.

Playing with the Experiment

An purposely fails some tests to spend extra time with Arata during make-up lessons.

She also pretends to flirt with Arata to see if he would act inappropriately toward high school girls.

An sometimes tests Chizuru Hishiro’s feelings for Arata by observing or encouraging emotional situations.

Discovery and Change

Ryō Yoake eventually figures out An is a ReLIFE staff member due to her over-involvement with the subjects.

After that, An stops pretending to fail tests and becomes less obvious in her actions.

Showing Her Care

Although An teases her friends, she is deeply supportive.

She helps Ryō Yoake feel better when he’s having a hard time supporting Chizuru Hishiro.

After the experiment, An proposes that Arata and Chizuru should be allowed happiness together.

Other Details

An’s main responsibility switches from Arata to Chizuru during the second semester of the third year.
