She is the aunt of the three sisters. She is the mama (proprietress) of the Snack Bar Misaki in Ginza, where Akari Kawamoto works. She cares deeply for the Kawamoto sisters and hired Akari as a hostess at her bar to relieve her from household chores. She is very business-minded, utilizing Akari to liven up her establishment. While she seeks to protect Akari from smitten customers, she also tries to extract money from them in the process, to the point that Someji Kawamoto calls her "a demon" out of fear. However, this does not mean she is greedy or unscrupulous with money. She is married. At the time when Hinata Kawamoto is about to enter high school, she is 52 years old.
Many of the bar’s regulars are professional shogi players, members of the shogi association, and local business executives. Someji Kawamoto describes her as "always putting on the best face to others." Unlike her mother Sai Kawamoto, who was attentive and loved to cook, or her younger sister Mikako Kawamoto, she specializes only in eating and not in cooking.
She is one of the few who understand Seijirou’s nature. Many times, she has intervened to prevent him from ingratiating himself with Akari Kawamoto and her sisters, and she confided to Rei Kiriyama her feelings: "I didn’t want Akari Kawamoto and the others to know any more of the bad sides of their father."
In the movie adaptation, her surname is set as Kawamoto. As a result, unlike in the original work, her marital status is unclear, and there is no indication whether she took her husband’s surname, is unmarried, or divorced.
