He is a fellow poet like Ichiyō, a 22-year-old young man. He is fond of gambling, but because he spends all the money he earns right away, he is constantly broke. In order to make money, he has even engaged in borderline fraudulent activities. In the past, he tried to obtain Kaka, but after being harshly treated by her, he became close to Ichiyō (although Ichiyō does not feel the same way).
