Tenmaya

Tenmaya is a man who usually wears a red shirt.

He has a constant, bold smile on his face.

He lives in a self-built hut on top of the Teramachi Street arcade.

He sometimes stretches his chin to odd lengths using his illusions.

He is sneaky and clever, always looking for fun or trouble.

He smiles a lot and seems confident, but when he sees Benten, he loses his nerve.

He loves to entertain and watch strange things happen, seeing the world as a big show.

Tenmaya was once a servant of Juroujin, one of the powerful elders.

However, he angered Juroujin and was punished by being trapped inside a painting of hell.

He was stuck there until Painter Ayameike altered the painting by adding a Buddha, which set him free.

Even after his release, Tenmaya fears being chased by vengeful spirits from hell.

Tenmaya is a highly skilled illusionist.

He can stretch his own chin and make objects like a red cow come to life out of a simple towel.

He can see through the disguises of others, even figuring out Yasaburō’s tricks.

His illusion skills are strong enough to challenge other top illusionists.

He once worked for Juroujin but was banished.

He teams up with Sōun Ebisugawa when their goals align.

Tenmaya likes Benten, but she does not return his feelings and dislikes him instead.

He built his hut and his shop without any real permission.

Tenmaya is worried about being hunted by someone from hell, so he once tried to burn the painting that trapped him.

In the anime, he appears earlier than in the original novel.

Running a Ramen Shop and Meeting Yasaburō

Tenmaya runs a ramen shop on top of Teramachi Street arcade.

He meets Yasaburō Shimogamo and has a disguise contest, easily defeating him with his illusions.

Life as Juroujin's Servant and Being Sent to Hell

Tenmaya was once one of Juroujin’s trusted helpers.

For unknown reasons, he angered Juroujin and was thrown into hell, trapped inside a hell painting.

Escape from the Painting

Painter Ayameike added a Buddha figure to the painting.

This allowed Tenmaya to escape and return to the real world.

Even after escaping, he is afraid of being dragged back to hell.

His Feelings for Benten

Tenmaya has a crush on Benten, but she does not like him.

Whenever he meets Benten, his confidence breaks, and he is nervous around her.

Returning to Juroujin and Joining Forces with Sōun

Tenmaya tries to win Juroujin’s favor back and becomes his helper again.

He joins up with Sōun Ebisugawa, who is disguised as Kureichirō Ebisugawa.

Falling Back into Hell

In the end, Benten finds out about Tenmaya's actions.

She punishes Tenmaya and Sōun by sending them both back into hell.

Tenmaya’s story is from "The Eccentric Family: The Return of Nidaime."

He stands out as a troublemaker who always brings excitement wherever he goes.
