Kintaro Toyama is the "Super Rookie of the West," a first-year regular from Shitenhoji Middle School known for his wild, child-like nature and monstrous physical abilities that defy his small stature.
Kintaro's trademark look is a distinctive leopard-print tank top.
He is a young boy with a small build.
Kintaro is a bright, mischievous, and energetic wild child.
He possesses superhuman strength and stamina, capable of lifting a motorcycle over his head or running from Shin-Fuji to Tokyo.
He is incredibly pure and straightforward, which leads him to genuinely fear Kuranosuke Shiraishi's bandaged left arm, believing it to be a "poison hand" based on knowledge from manga.
His personal motto, inherited from his mentor, is "An eye for an eye."
Kintaro's journey into tennis began just a few months before he entered Shitenhoji.
He was defeated by an old woman named Reika Yakusugi, affectionately called "Grandma Sugi," a former Wimbledon doubles champion.
Through repeated matches with her, he grew to love the sport and formed a deep bond with her.
He treasures the old wooden racket she gave him before she passed away, considering it his "treasure."

Mental: 4/5
Technique: 4/5
Playstyle
He is an All-Rounder with a wild and unpredictable style, making movements that seem almost nonsensical.
Despite being a first-year with less than a year of experience, Shiraishi considers him the "strongest player in Shitenhoji."

A super-powered shot that incorporates a full-body twist. Gin Ishida notes it is even more dangerous than his own "108th Style Hadōkyū."
Super Megaton Wonder Deluxe Mountain Eruption Serve
A new technique introduced in *The New Prince of Tennis*, this is essentially the service version of his signature Mountain Storm shot.
Other Abilities
Pinnacle of Effortless Perfection
Kintaro achieves this advanced state during his second match against Jūjirō Oni, hinting at his vast potential for growth.
Mental Immunity
For unknown reasons, he is immune to Seda's mental manipulation abilities, a trait he shares with Zeus Iliopoulos.
Ryoma Echizen
Kintaro sees Ryoma as his primary rival, whom he playfully calls "Koshimae."
Kuranosuke Shiraishi
As his captain, Shiraishi recognizes Kintaro's immense potential and declares him the strongest member of their team.
Seiichi Yukimura
Kintaro develops a rivalry with Yukimura, challenging him repeatedly until he finally secures a victory on their 100th match.
Grandma Sugi (Reika Yakusugi)
She was his first mentor and the one who introduced him to the joy of tennis. Her teachings and the racket she left him remain profoundly important to him.
- Original Protagonist: In the initial concept for the series (tentatively titled "Kin-Teni"), Kintaro was slated to be the main character, with Ryoma Echizen as his rival.
- Name Origin: His name is derived from Toyama Kageshirō, the famous Edo-period magistrate also known as "Toyama no Kin-san." This was likely chosen to create a thematic opposition to Ryoma Echizen, whose family name evokes another famous magistrate, Ōoka Echizen.
- Nickname: He is commonly referred to as "Kin-chan."
- "An eye for an eye!"
- "I wanna eat good food!"
- "I want 1000 servings of takoyaki!!"
Kinki and National Tournament Arc
Kintaro first demonstrates his power in the Kinki Regional Tournament by defeating Hagi, the ace of Makinofuji.
At the Nationals, he overwhelms Shinji Ibu in a single shot, forcing him to retire from the match.
He doesn't get a chance to play in the semifinals but begs for a one-point match against Ryoma Echizen.
The showdown reveals they are evenly matched, with both in a selfless state, and ends in a draw when the tennis ball is split in half.
Later, to buy time for Ryoma's arrival in the finals, he challenges Seiichi Yukimura to a one-point match but is defeated effortlessly.
Post-Nationals & New Prince of Tennis
After the tournament, Kintaro travels alone to Rikkai to challenge Yukimura again.
He finally wins on their 100th match (though it was a draw, Yukimura conceded defeat), leading Genichiro Sanada to praise his potential as being even greater than Ryoma's.
At the U-17 training camp, he plays a practice match against Jūjirō Oni. He easily returns a Black Jackknife with a standard racket but ultimately loses.
He was scheduled to face Senri Chitose in a tie-break match but was disqualified for not showing up.
Upon his return, he defeats Izō Hakamada despite struggling against his "Disappearance" technique, earning the No. 14 badge.
In a rematch against a fully powered Oni, Kintaro is defeated but awakens the "Pinnacle of Effortless Perfection," showing his capacity for further growth.
U-17 World Cup
Kintaro is selected as a representative for Japan's middle school team.
In the preliminary league, he is placed on "Team Bamboo" and defeats Australia's J. J. Dorgias in Singles 3 after Dorgias retires from the match.
He initially planned to compete for the Singles 2 spot against Ryoma in the final selection tournament.
However, after a talk with Shiraishi, he pairs up with Ryūji Ōmagari for Doubles 2, discovering a love for doubles and unlocking his talent in it. They defeat the pairs of Yukimura/Yanagi and Tanegashima/Shiraishi to secure their spot on the finals roster.
In the World Cup finals, he and Ōmagari face Mars de Colon and Seda in Doubles 2.
During the intense match, his treasured wooden racket breaks. However, his Shitenhoji teammates present him with a new racket made just for him. Using it, he evolves his "Pinnacle of Effortless Perfection" further but ultimately loses the match.
