Keisuke Suga

Keisuke Suga is a tall, thin middle-aged man.

He has untidy hair with some gray, a messy beard, and droopy, narrow eyes that give him a relaxed, laid-back look.

His skin is dry, and his fingers are rough, showing his real age.

He usually wears bright, tight shirts, and his style looks both stylish and careless at the same time.

People around him think he is a friendly, approachable adult.

Keisuke often seems carefree and irresponsible, letting out half-hearted laughs and avoiding serious talks.

Underneath, he is actually down-to-earth and makes smart choices based on what is right and fair.

He sometimes has a hard time completely sticking to being realistic, which makes him look "uncool" to people like Natsumi Suga.

While he acts like he doesn't care, he is very kind and looks out for people in trouble.

He is quick to help, even if it means going against rules, especially for someone he believes in.

Keisuke Suga was born as the second son in a well-known family from the countryside, where his family expected great things from him.

Unlike his older brother, who became successful, Keisuke ran away to Tokyo as a teenager.

There, he met Asuka Mamiya, fell in love, and got married after a dramatic romance.

They started the company K&A Planning together, and soon after, their daughter Moka was born.

Hodaka Morishima

Keisuke met Hodaka on the ferry to Tokyo and saved him when he almost fell overboard.

Keisuke fed him, offered him help, and later gave him a job as an assistant and a place to live when Hodaka needed it most.

He paid Hodaka a small salary but covered his food, rent, and phone costs.

Keisuke was hard on Hodaka in work, but also encouraged him, hoping he would become a better person.

When the police came after Hodaka, Keisuke tried to make him go home, but was moved by Hodaka's wish to see Hina Amano again and stood up for him.

Natsumi Suga

Natsumi is Keisuke's niece and also works as his assistant.

She calls him "Kei-chan," and he calls her Natsumi.

Keisuke both jokes with her and pushes her to get a "real job," but also respects her energy and spirit.

They have a strong bond from family and work together well during investigations.

Moka Suga

Moka is Keisuke's daughter from his marriage to Asuka.

He loves her very much and tries his best to see her, though she currently lives with Mrs. Mamiya, her grandmother.

He once used the "sunshine girl" service so he could meet with her outdoors in good weather.

Moka calls him "Papa," showing their close bond, even if they cannot spend much time together.

Mrs. Mamiya

Mrs. Mamiya is Asuka's mother and took Moka in after Asuka died.

She has a formal relationship with Keisuke, but they both care about Moka.

Keisuke drinks lots of energy drinks to feel young and wrote a report about testing different brands for a magazine.

He cares very little about cleaning, letting empty cans and clothes pile up in his office.

He does not care much about food and happily eats whatever is handy, whether fancy meals or simple store-bought food.

In early story plans, he was going to be both a writer and a weather AI researcher.

Meeting Hodaka Morishima

On the ferry to Tokyo, Keisuke Suga saves Hodaka Morishima from falling into the sea.

He treats Hodaka to food and beer and gives him his business card, seeing he is a runaway.

Giving Hodaka a Job

Soon after, Hodaka contacts Keisuke for help in Tokyo.

Keisuke lets him live and work as an assistant at his office, calling it an "internship."

He teaches Hodaka the ropes of writing entertaining articles, pushing him to improve.

Supporting and Guiding

Keisuke pays Hodaka a very small salary but covers his daily needs.

He acts both as a boss and a guardian, scolding and encouraging Hodaka to learn and grow.

The "Sunshine Girl" Service

Keisuke misses his daughter Moka, who lives with her grandmother.

Since he can't see her often, he uses the "sunshine girl" service—asking Hina Amano to make a sunny day so he can spend time with Moka outside.

He finds happiness in these rare meetings.

Facing the Police

When Hodaka goes on the run from the police, Keisuke tries to persuade him to give up.

But seeing Hodaka's strong wish to see Hina again, Keisuke is moved and stands up to the police, even showing anger at their harsh treatment of Hodaka.

Aftermath and Success

Two and a half years after the main events, Keisuke is now a successful writer and editor.

He has a new, fancier office and continues to help people close to him.

People call him by names that reflect their relationship to him—Hodaka and Hina use "Mr. Suga," Natsumi calls him "Kei-chan," Mrs. Mamiya "Keisuke," and Moka calls him "Papa."

Keisuke Suga lives in his company office in Shinjuku, Tokyo, which was once a small bar.

He and Asuka took a family photo there with Moka when setting up their company.

He loves Asuka deeply and, even years after her death, does not want to remarry.

Keisuke's company mainly writes for entertainment magazines, especially about mysteries and legends, even though he does not believe in them himself.
