Kanta Higurashi

Akira's college classmate. A young man known for always having a cigarette in his mouth. His weapon of choice is dynamite. During their college days, he harbored resentment towards Akira and Kencho, who enjoyed life in contrast to his own lack of dreams. He plots to take revenge on Akira by turning the villagers of Akira's hometown into zombies. He and his companions had taken refuge in Akira's hometown village but opened a blocked tunnel to let zombies into the village. He also created a "100 Things to Do Before Becoming a Zombie" list with his companions, filled with dangerous activities like "detonating dynamite" and "firing a real gun." In the final showdown with Akira's group, he mistakenly believes he has won when he sees Akira in Ayumi's special makeup, thinking Akira has turned into a zombie. However, he is caught off guard and pulled off a tractor by Akira, who subdues him. While he is regretting his actions, a zombie bites his leg. Akira asks him what he truly wanted to do, and he confesses that he really wanted to make friends and play in the public pool like he did as a child. Akira tells him that if he becomes a zombie, they can play in the pool together, and he breaks down in tears as Akira hugs him. In the anime version, realizing he is about to turn into a zombie, he runs away from Akira and jumps into a river, where he dies after turning into a zombie.
