Character Setting

Edit

Professor Akadama is a once-great tengu who used to rule over Mt. Nyoi. He lost his power and position after the "Demon King Cedar Incident," and now he lives quietly in a small apartment behind Demachi Masugata Shopping Street. Although he is very proud and often looks down on others, many tanuki, including the Shimogamo family and the Ebisugawa family, were his students. He is especially close to Sōichirō Shimogamo. Even now, he is still respected in the tanuki world, but he spends most of his time missing Benten, whom he loves deeply. He gave most of his tengu tools to Benten and now lives more like a grumpy old man than a mighty tengu.

Professor Akadama now looks like an ordinary old man. He is no longer the powerful tengu he once was and appears frail and weak. He is usually seen in his apartment behind Demachi Masugata Shopping Street, spending his days in simplicity.

Professor Akadama is very proud and stubborn.

He often makes mean comments and complains about almost everything.

Even so, he has a strong presence and sometimes says things that really touch others' hearts.

He likes to complain and boss others around, especially Yasaburō Shimogamo, but deep down he actually cares about him.

Despite his rough attitude, he can be wise and inspiring when it matters most.

Professor Akadama was once the mighty ruler of Mt. Nyoi and was known as the Nyoi-ga-take Yakushibō.

He was a powerful tengu who taught many tanuki, including all four Shimogamo brothers, their parents, the people of the Ebisugawa family, and even Benten.

He fell from his position after the "Demon King Cedar Incident," where he lost his spiritual power and was chased away by the Kurama Tengu.

Since then, he has lived alone in an apartment, away from his former glory.

After losing his power, Professor Akadama cannot fly or fight as he once did.

However, he can still use tengu tools with skill.

He is no longer feared for his strength, but his knowledge remains valuable.

  • Many tanuki were once his students, including the entire Shimogamo family and people from the Ebisugawa family.
  • He was a close friend of Sōichirō Shimogamo.
  • He fell in love with Benten and waits for her return, even after losing everything.
  • His son Nidaime left Japan after a fight, but in the end of "The Nidaime Returns Home," Professor Akadama gives him kind words.
  • Yasaburō Shimogamo helps take care of him. Although he grumbles, he has a soft spot for Yasaburō.
  • He gave all his tengu tools to Benten to please her, which surprised those around him.

His name, Professor Akadama, comes from his fondness for "Akadama Port Wine".

Even now, he is called upon to be present at the fake Ebisugawa (the leader of the tanuki) election, showing he is still respected.

He lives in a worn-down apartment behind Demachi Masugata Shopping Street, a big change from his life on Mt. Nyoi.

The Fall of a Great Tengu

Professor Akadama used to rule over Mt. Nyoi with great power.

However, after the "Demon King Cedar Incident," where he fell from the Demon King Cedar, he lost his spiritual power.

He was expelled from Mt. Nyoi by the Kurama Tengu and forced to move into a small apartment in the city.

Teaching Tanuki and Making Bonds

Before his fall, Professor Akadama taught many tanuki, including the Shimogamo family and the people of Ebisugawa.

He also formed a deep friendship with Sōichirō Shimogamo.

Benten became his student, and he fell in love with her bold and free-spirited nature.

Life After Losing Power

With his powers gone, Professor Akadama became like a regular old man.

He gave away all his tengu tools to Benten, much to the disbelief of others.

Now, he spends his days grumbling in his apartment and being cared for by Yasaburō Shimogamo, for whom he has hidden fondness.

Family and Reconciliation

Professor Akadama's son, Nidaime, had left Japan after being disowned by him.

By the end of "The Nidaime Returns Home," father and son exchange kind words and show their bond.

"Clinging to past glory, he grumbles and complains, but sometimes he says things that really matter."

Sometimes, even though he seems grumpy, Professor Akadama can give important advice right when it is needed.

He is respected by both tanuki and tengu, even in his old age.

He is still asked to watch over important events like the leader election in the tanuki world.
