"Is Katai-kun a tough guy?"

1st Year Class 1 → 2nd Year Class 1 → 3rd Year Class 4. A kid with a tough-looking face, dyed blonde hair, and a defiant smile, giving off the impression of a delinquent. He has a large, muscular build and is feared by most of his classmates. However, in reality, he is extremely timid, having missed the first week of school due to a cold, which made it difficult for him to attend school until well into the second semester. To avoid being underestimated, he dyed his hair and built up his body, becoming a "communication disorder" person. Despite this, his physique is genuine, and he remains unfazed even when struck by the first-year Four Heavenly Kings. Initially, he was so bad at communication that he could barely hold a conversation, but with the support of Tadano and Komi, he gradually became able to converse normally by being encouraged to be himself.

He considers Tadano, who saw through his true nature at first sight and kindly interacted with him, as a friend and tries to deepen their friendship, though he sometimes seems to overstep the bounds of friendship (his heartbeat exceeds 60dB just by being close to Tadano). He also fell in love at first sight with Tadano-kun-chan. Meanwhile, due to a misunderstanding, he calls Komi the "Communication Master" and regards her as his mentor, adding her to his "Can I make 100 disciples?" list, a play on "Can I make 100 friends?" in Volume 6 extras. When he learned that Tadano was dating Komi, he cried tears of joy while congratulating them.

His home is a martial arts dojo. He has a martial artist father, a silent mother, and a sister named Ai who pretends to be a tough delinquent, and he is rigorously trained by his assertive sister during workouts. As a result, he is very bad with women.

In his second year, he often hangs out with Tadano, Naruse, and Kometani, and has also become able to communicate with Manbagi. In his third year, he sits next to Manbagi. He supports Wakai, who is also very bad with women, in his interactions with Manbagi, based on his own experiences. For a while, Wakai mistakenly thought he was Manbagi's boyfriend.

His least favorite food is green peppers.
