Soun Tendou

Soun Tendou looks like a traditional martial arts master, with a stern face and distinguished mustache. He usually wears dojo clothes. Even though he seems strict at first glance, his expressions often turn silly or scared, showing his gentle and sometimes over-the-top reactions.

Kind and Responsible

Soun is good-hearted and always tries to do the right thing. He loves his daughters and wants what’s best for them.

Very Emotional

Even though he sometimes looks intimidating, Soun is quick to get scared, cry, or overreact. When faced with dangerous or uncomfortable situations, he might break down in tears or even beg for mercy.

Protective Father

He deeply loves his daughters Kasumi, Nabiki, and Akane. He especially worries about Akane and often reacts strongly if Ranma Saotome is seen with other girls or hurts Akane’s feelings.

Set in His Ways

Soun is sometimes stubborn. If he gets an idea in his head—like a certain pairing for marriage—he sticks to it, even if it causes trouble.

Soun Tendou trained under Happosai, just like his longtime friend Genma Saotome. He started the Musabetsu Kakutou Tendou-ryu (Anything Goes Martial Arts: Tendou Style) and opened his own dojo in Nerima, Tokyo.

He promised Genma Saotome that their children would marry and one day continue the dojo together. Soun’s wife, the girls’ mother, passed away when Akane was very young, leaving Soun to raise their three daughters on his own.

He is well respected in his neighborhood, even serving as the neighborhood association chairman in the anime. Townspeople come to him for advice on everything from self-defense to community issues.

Soun Tendou is a martial arts master, though he doesn’t often fight in the story.

However, Soun is not good at gambling—he lost every match of Old Maid against the Gambling King.

Genma Saotome

Soun and Genma are close friends, having trained together under Happosai. Although their plans for their children’s marriage cause chaos, their friendship is strong.

Akane Tendou, Nabiki Tendou, and Kasumi Tendou

Soun is a loving father, especially protective of Akane and Kasumi, though he sometimes struggles with Nabiki’s scheming ways.

Happosai

Happosai is Soun’s old master, but Soun fears and dislikes him due to Happosai’s bad behavior.

Ranma Saotome

Soun supports Ranma, especially regarding Ranma’s relationship with Akane, wanting their marriage to restore and continue the dojo legacy.

Even the author confirmed that Soun has students at his dojo, but their family’s income is unstable because the house keeps getting destroyed.
