Ugallu looks like a girl with beastly ears.

She has a unique appearance that mixes human and animal features.

Her true form is that of a beast-eared girl.

After being fully summoned into the real world, she continues to look like this.

Ugallu speaks in broken sentences and refers to herself as "ore."

She is not good at reading or counting above ten, but she’s eager to learn.

Even basic tasks can confuse her, so when asked to buy something, she often comes back with the wrong items.

Despite her past as a dangerous entity, Ugallu is simple-minded, honest, and tries her best to help.

She enjoys being with others, tries to find her own job, and is sometimes seen as a little sister or even a daughter by those around her.

She becomes attached to the person she sees as her "boss."

Ugallu was originally summoned ten years before the story by Mikan Hinatsuki’s father.

He tried to use old rituals to summon a guardian spirit to protect his family and factory.

However, the ritual was done incorrectly, so Ugallu misunderstood her purpose.

Instead of protecting Mikan gently, she attacked everything that made Mikan upset.

This made her a serious threat, but Sakura Chiyoda created a barrier that made Ugallu's curse funny instead of harmful.

Ugallu is very powerful, even for a summoned being.

Her claws can cut through a whole kitchen, and she can fight off other familiar spirits with ease.

She is a conceptual being without a soul, which allows her to enter people’s minds or sealed spaces as an "offering."

Ugallu is one of the few who can enter unconscious spaces aside from Yuko and Lilith.

Her magical strength depends on Mikan’s magic as her source.

Ugallu was created for Mikan Hinatsuki and considers her a parent figure.

After being released from her curse, Ugallu lives with Mikan and sees her as a mother.

She once viewed Yuko as her boss but later gives that title to Shirosawa, calling him "Boss of Boss."

She becomes a beloved part of the group at Sakura Gaoka.

Though simple, she is deeply loyal to those who try to understand and help her.

• Ugallu struggles with language and numbers. She only remembers kanji for "citrus," "mikan," and "lemon" because of Mikan Hinatsuki.
• When sent on errands, she buys things that only sound similar to what was asked for, always including croquettes if she can.
• She likes meat offerings but hates it when there’s lemon on them.
• Her name comes from a monster in Mesopotamian mythology, which was thought to guard homes from evil.

“This is the job... that only I can do right now!!!”

“The meat from the offering was tasty. But there was no lemon on it.”

“Offerings are like a contract greeting! If it tastes bad, I can’t get stronger! Lemon on meat is the worst!!”

The Curse’s Arrival

Ten years before the main story, Mikan Hinatsuki’s father summons Ugallu to guard his family and business.

Because the ritual was done poorly, Ugallu cannot correctly understand her orders.

She tries to protect Mikan, but attacks anything that upsets her, causing chaos and danger.

The Control Barrier

At her worst, Ugallu is a serious threat.

Sakura Chiyoda sets up a barrier that changes Ugallu’s attacks from harmful to comedic disasters whenever Mikan gets upset.

Discovering the Truth

Later, Yuko Yoshida and her friends learn that Ugallu is a lonely being who only wants to help.

They enter Mikan’s mind and meet Ugallu, who is about to disappear after realizing she was hurting Mikan.

With everyone’s teamwork, including the help of the townspeople, they build a new vessel for Ugallu so she can live in the real world.

New Life in the Human World

Now freed from her curse, Ugallu finds new purpose and tries to discover her own "job."

She joins Mikan as her roommate and helps out wherever she can, adjusting to the human world with her friends’ support.

Anime Appearance

Ugallu appears in episode 12 of season 2 of The Demon Girl Next Door.

She is welcomed back into the world with a special magic-powered fried chicken offering by Lico.

Ugallu is based on the Mesopotamian monster "Ugallu," which was thought to protect homes from evil.

In the series, her true power would be even greater if she were the real mythological Ugallu.

Even as a summoned demon girl, she plays a big role in her friends’ lives.
