Kasane Randall is one of the main characters in Scarlet Nexus. She is a new member of the Other Suppression Force, known for her powerful psychokinesis ability. Unlike Yuito Sumeragi who joined as a volunteer, Kasane was scouted for her talent and graduated top of her class at the Training School. She was adopted into the well-known Randall family at a young age and has a close bond with her adoptive sister, Naomi Randall. Kasane is serious, straightforward, and values her sister above all else. She often dreams of a mysterious "Red String," which is linked to her special powers and her hidden origin.
Kasane wears a black ninja-inspired suit by default, but she also has several other costumes, such as the "White Dawn" outfit and a school uniform-themed costume from a DLC. She uses bird-shaped blades that float around her, controlled by her mental power. She is left-handed and is often seen with her treasured hair accessory, handmade by Naomi.
Kasane is very serious, honest, and tends to do things at her own pace. She treats everyone equally, regardless of appearance or social status. While she can be strict with people who lack ability, she never goes too far and always gives helpful advice. Her top priority is always Naomi's happiness, even to a point that may seem obsessive. Kasane is practical and dislikes wasting time on small talk or pointless actions. Because she puts Naomi first, she doesn’t have many other close friends and can sometimes be misunderstood as being cold or snobbish. Despite this, people respect her for her skills, courage, and strong will.
Kasane lost her real parents in an attack and was adopted by the Randall family. Her adoptive parents saw her mainly as a bodyguard for Naomi, and Kasane never responded to messages from her adoptive mother. Her relationship with them is strained, except for the deep bond she shares with Naomi, who welcomes her as real family. Kasane often dreams of a strange woman telling her, "Don’t let go of the red string." She does not understand what this dream means but finds it mysterious. For fun, Kasane likes carving wooden sculptures using her psychokinesis to control a knife.
Kasane's main power is psychokinesis, which lets her move objects with her mind. But her true ability is actually gravity manipulation, which leads to the power of time travel. At first, she cannot control time jumping on her own. She uses her psychokinesis to launch bird-shaped blades at enemies in battle and combines swift movements with projectile attacks. Kasane is skilled with her powers and has a unique battle style.
Her most important relationship is with Naomi Randall, her adoptive sister. Kasane treasures Naomi and considers her the reason she can keep going. She relies on Naomi for support and even lets Naomi pick her clothes. Kasane is also interested in Seto Narukami, and after meeting him, she starts to think about him more, even though she doesn’t realize her feelings at first.
Kasane’s connection with Yuito Sumeragi is complex, especially since they share similar abilities, which becomes important in the story.
Kasane likes carving wooden figures as a hobby, using her psychokinesis skillfully. She and Arashi Spring are both left-handed. Kasane does not care much about fashion or trends and usually lets Naomi choose her clothes. She makes direct and sometimes awkward questions, especially when she wants to know what someone really thinks.
Joining the OSF
Kasane Randall was scouted and joined the Other Suppression Force (OSF), unlike Yuito Sumeragi who volunteered. She quickly stood out as a top performer and was assigned to Kyouka Eden’s team. Her power of psychokinesis is the strongest in her squad.
Adopted into the Randall Family
Kasane was adopted by the prestigious Randall family after losing her parents in an Other attack. The family saw her only as Naomi’s protector, and she grew up mostly alone except for Naomi’s kindness. Kasane treasures Naomi and the matching hair ornaments she made.
Dreams of the Red String
Kasane has mysterious dreams about a woman and a "Red String." She does not understand these dreams, but they hint at her true power and fate. The red string is later revealed to be important for time travel.
Awakening Her True Power
Later in the story, after Karen Travers starts a rebellion, Kasane faces many challenges. During a fight on Kunad Highway, she is overwhelmed and gets trapped inside a mental world with Yuito. After returning to reality, she is attacked by Nagi Karman, who is controlled by Karen Travers, and Kasane gets caught in the Kunad Gate, a dangerous space-time rift.
When she wakes up, Kasane finds herself in a destroyed Suoh in the future, where she meets an older Yuito Sumeragi. Future Yuito explains the truth about her powers and the meaning of the "Red String," calling it the key to time travel. Because their powers resonated, the Kunad Gate worsened, leading to the destruction of Suoh. To fix this, future Yuito suggests ending present Yuito’s life. After these events, Kasane is blamed for the murder of Joe Sumeragi but is only framed by Kagerou Donne. She and her team escape to the Seiran government, where Kasane becomes the new leader of her squad.
True Origin
Kasane eventually learns the truth about her origin: she is a "Design Child" created by Togetsu, a society of people who want to erase the history of humans coming to Earth from the moon. Togetsu made Kasane to gain the power of Red Strings and time travel. Kasane’s "mother" was actually a Togetsu woman who raised her for this purpose, but was later protected by the New Himuka government.
Kasane joined the game Tales of the Rays in a 2023 crossover event, where her special move is called "Brain Crush."
