Mashiro Shiina

The heroine of the story. A resident of Room 202 in Sakura Dormitory, she is a second-year → third-year student in the art department (from Volume 7). She is renowned as a world-class genius painter, but due to her lack of common sense and life skills, she is "cared for" by Sorata. Although she struggles with studying and scores zero in all subjects on tests, she demonstrates an extraordinary memorization ability, perfectly recalling answers and scoring full marks on retests using the same questions. She is currently aspiring to become a manga artist. Her parents work in art-related jobs and currently live abroad.

Initially, she rarely showed emotions and was expressionless, but as she spent time with Sorata and others, she began to express her emotions and facial expressions. She speaks in a straightforward manner and often makes statements that lead to misunderstandings. She also exhibits unconventional behavior, such as eating store displays before paying for them.

She transferred to Suiko in the spring of her second year and moved into Sakura Dormitory. For some reason, she became attached to Sorata and eventually became aware of him, but she does not seem to understand what this first-time emotion is. She becomes displeased when she sees Nanami or Rita getting along with Sorata. When they first met, she had no sense of shame and would have Sorata prepare her clothes while she was naked, but after about a month, she began to feel embarrassed about being seen naked by Sorata. However, she still demands that he do her laundry and prepare her clothes.

Her talent as a painter is exceptional, with large-scale solo exhibitions being held and thick art books being published, earning her high social acclaim. On the other hand, her manga is praised for its artistic skill but criticized for having a bland and uninteresting storyline.
