Kakugyouki

Kakugyouki appears as a tall, strong man with a wild but stylish look.

He usually wears a suit in a relaxed fashion that fits his cool style.

Despite his muscular and wild appearance, he is always polite and moves smoothly.

Kakugyouki is usually calm and collected.

He doesn't show much emotion, even when hearing rumors about Tsuchimikado Yakou being reborn.

He acts quietly and carefully, watching over new students like Harutora Tsuchimikado and Touji Ato for almost a year before revealing himself.

He cares deeply about his name and feels strong pride, warning anyone who uses it wrongly.

Although mostly easygoing, at times, he shows his fierce demon side.

Kakugyouki is one of the two strongest guardian shikigami formerly used by Tsuchimikado Yakou, standing alongside Hishamaru.

He has lived since ancient times and had many legends before meeting Yakou.

Even after his master disappeared, he continued living in the human world, keeping his strong presence, dignity, and power.

His full power is unknown, but even high-class onmyoji like Atsune Hirata could not even touch him with their spells.

He is strong enough to move freely among humans and other spiritual creatures.

• Kakugyouki shares a complicated, old connection with Douman Ashiya, often meeting him when he is up to something.
• He often interacts with Suzu Saotome, the apprentice of Douman Ashiya, but seems to dislike those meetings.
• He has watched over Harutora Tsuchimikado, especially when Kon was with him, and later joined them after Kon regained her true form as Hishamaru.

He got the name "Kakugyouki" (meaning "Bishop Demon") from Tsuchimikado Yakou, based on the shogi chess piece, just like Hishamaru's name.

Before serving Yakou, he was known by a different name—this old name also appears in many legends.

His real identity is Ibaraki Douji, the famous legendary demon from the Heian period who lost his arm to Watanabe no Tsuna.

Watching Over the New Generation

After Harutora Tsuchimikado entered the Onmyo Prep School, Kakugyouki noticed him spending time with Kon.

Even though he understood who they were, Kakugyouki chose not to act for a year and instead silently observed them.

He sent a message to Hishamaru that echoed something he once said to Yakou's team.

Reunion with Hishamaru

When Kon finally woke her true form as Hishamaru, Kakugyouki joined her.

After Harutora regained the memories of Yakou, Kakugyouki stayed with him, showing his loyalty still remained.

His True Name and Origin

Long ago, Kakugyouki fought Watanabe no Tsuna at Ichijo Modoribashi Bridge and lost his arm to the sword Higekiri.

In legend, Ibaraki Douji disguised himself as Tsuna’s relative to retrieve his arm, but Tsuna gave him a fake arm as predicted by Abe no Seimei and Minamoto no Yorimitsu.

When he realized he had been tricked, Ibaraki Douji stormed Seimei’s house to get his real arm back but was defeated.

Abe no Seimei agreed to return his arm on one condition—he had to live for a thousand years.

A thousand years later, Ibaraki Douji visited the descendants of Seimei, the Tsuchimikado family.

There, he met Yakou, already famous as a genius, and Hishamaru, starting a new life as Kakugyouki.

Ties to the Main Story

Kakugyouki's past and vows continue to tie him closely to Yakou's reincarnation, Harutora.

He keeps supporting them, both in secret and openly, never forgetting his promise from long ago.
