Mitama

Mitama appears as a cute young girl with green hair and a single strand sticking straight up from her head, which moves according to her emotions. Yukito often grabs this stray hair playfully.

She has a special emblem on her chest, showing an image like three stalks of rice. A newer version of Mitama appears later, with a different emblem made up of five rice stalks. Her main form is even more terrifying, with many muddy eyes and a huge, creepy body that is nothing like any living creature.

Mitama is very affectionate toward Yukito, even acting clingy. She will do anything Yukito asks, giving her a strong loyalty. However, she has a cold and merciless side when dealing with anyone else.

Unlike normal humans, Mitama’s thoughts and actions can be strange or scary. This unique personality makes her seem like a "cursed god" or even an evil spirit. She is sometimes described as being like a "demonic god" who has attached herself to Yukito.

Mitama was worshipped at the cult founded by Yukito Urabe’s father, Soichiro Urabe.

The actual being called Mitama has a main body trapped and unable to move freely for a long time. This form is called "Kunino Tokoyo Mitama no Oomikami," or "The Great Spirit God of the Land of Eternal World," a god who existed since the start of everything and stood above all other gods.

Mitama was first noticed by a young girl named Nayu during the Tenpo famine in Japan around the 1830s. People could not even recognize Mitama’s form, except for Nayu. They became friends, but Nayu fell ill and was dying of hunger when Mitama appeared before her.

Mitama is said to be modeled after an ancient Japanese earth deity, one who could call on many other gods, and her story is connected to Japan’s religious history from the late Edo period.

Mitama is an all-rounder with many different powers.

She can call forth ancient tools and bring them back to the present, which includes farming equipment, fuel, electrical appliances, even infrastructure like water and power. Mitama can heal deadly wounds, revive the dead, and restore entire destroyed villages.

For fighting, Mitama grows vines and plants to attack or defend, create plant monsters, tie up enemies, or protect allies.

Her greatest ability is to call upon the Eight Million Gods, standing at their peak, though if she is weak, these gods might leave in the middle of battle.

All of her powers depend on how many believers she has. If she loses followers, her strength fades and she ends up like a wilted white plant, buzzing with flies.

She is very close and loyal to Yukito Urabe, willing to do anything he asks.

Her main body is worshipped by Soichiro Urabe’s cult "Shinji Suko."

She is compared to a "cursed god" by Gaia and even the creator of the story views her as an "evil god."

First Appearance: God in a New World

Mitama first appears when Yukito is about to be killed in the distant future by Bertrand, before his gender change. She arrives as a "self-proclaimed omnipotent god," using impressive powers to instantly defeat knights by pulling them into a different space.

Power Depends on Believers

After using up all her power, Mitama realizes she cannot do anything without followers in this new world. She tries her best, only able to make small miracles like creating wine, healing with hot springs, growing plants, making electricity, and connecting people's minds.

Rebuilding Power

With Yukito, she starts the sect "Salvation Mitama Faith" and tries to gain more believers, so she can recover her abilities.

Mitama’s True Body

Mitama’s true body is hidden in her shadow, full of muddy eyes and a very creepy form. This god was once above all others but killed many people, so she was trapped outside the world by the other gods.

Future and the New Mitama

In the far future, Mitama’s main body creates a new version of herself with five rice stalks as an emblem. This new Mitama joins forces with Loki, later betraying him and overpowering him using plant-based powers. She then attacks Yukito’s group, capturing Alural and Siluril and holding them hostage.

After this, the main body cuts off its connection to the old Mitama. The new Mitama becomes more powerful but faces trouble as the loyalty of her many believers is weak and their numbers keep dropping. She begins her next plan using Loki, Alural, and Siluril as pawns.

Early Memories

Mitama’s oldest memory goes back to the 1830s. Back then, only a poor girl named Nayu could see or talk to her. During a terrible famine, Nayu was dying from hunger and sickness. As she was about to die, Mitama offered her a contract to save her and take her descendants as servants.

Mitama’s secrets and real identity are still unknown as of 2024. However, it is clear she has existed since at least the 1830s and plays a very important role both in the human and godly world.
